• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Am I doing something wrong?

I did it again this morning! After I started :f_spider: up, I tried to release the parking brake. I ride a 2009 RS SE5 :spyder2:. While seated I pushed down on the parking brake pedal to release it and my foot slipped off the pedal,:yikes: barked my shin :cus: on the left foot peg again! This is at least the third time I've had this happen. Is there a secret to not destroying your shin other than putting on a shin guard like the baseball players use when batting?

I rode a GS for a short time last year and sometimes I felt like I was kick starting a motorcycle when I was trying to release the parking brake. Now I just push a nice little button and it magically releases the brake.

If the Spyder is on level ground, I suggest releasing the brake before you get on. That is easier for me. Also, be sure the parking brake is properly adjusted. It should grab solidly within a couple of clicks. If it has too much travel, it is much easier to slip off the pedal. I do wish they had retained the larger parking brake pedal that was installed on the earlier GS.

:agree: That is what I do as well. Took a couple of busted shins to figure that out, but I learned! If on a hill, I just leave it in first gear and try to park in such a way that it's as level as I can get it.

I stand up to release the parking brake. I put my left heel on the brake pedal with my foot turned toes facing out to the side. So far, no problems doing this. It's never ever crossed my mind that I might get hurt applying and releasing the brake. Gee, now I'll worry!! Hope your shin doesn't hurt too badly!

Been there done that. I could always tell when spring had arrived by the permanant bruise on my leg.

Went looking through the junk box in my dad's garage and found a piece of steel the size I needed. Removed the parking break foot pad and marked the steel piece where the holes needed to be. After some practice, I drilled holes in the steel piece, painted it black, and bolted it to the existing mount. Replaced the foot pad and as it may not look the greatest, I haven't had any bruises. :2thumbs:

I feel your pain, I have a permanent scare after doing it many time when I first got my spyder. I got a pedal cover off a 08 (seem that the 08's came with a longer pedal) and had to cut a little off the rubber to make one hole fit now it is twice as long and no more slip.

I just kick my left knee out some, so the angle I push down is inwards ... Works for me :2thumbs:

I'll only take the brake off when sitting on the bike when it's dry. If my shoes or the pedal is wet I do it while standing on the ground as I had it happen to me but mainly only when shoes or pedal is wet but I can see it happen on a normal basis for some. Hurts like hell!!!

08 SM5 ; I've always had to adjust the parking brake or it wouldn't release' Then when the Spyder went in for sprocket and main shaft repair
I asked them while i have my wallet open $$$$$$ could you fix the park brake. done ;Park brake plate #705600776.
So far it's working, but then i don't ride the Spyder much any more to really test it. I ride my ER-6n more than the Spyder, Lost confidence in the Spyders reliability:(

I don't have a SE and for that reason I rarely use parking brake, because of skin fractures to shin when releasing. So if I do use it now I always disengage it before I get on.

Check with BJT... He can fix just about anything with this common, household tool.

The guy is just amazing. If you ever get the chance to see him work his magic, you'll know what I mean! :D
