• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Alright, LED questions-

Hey, Spyderlovers! I'm at a bit of an impasse here, and I need your assistance on a few questions. Firstly, I'd like to add some LED lighting effects to my spyder, but I am attempting to keep it on the lower end of the budget. Where I live, I would likely be cut a ticket costing the value of the roadster should I drive with any of them on, so these are going to mainly be for 'wow' factor and not visibility or driving. This leads to my first question:

Without any electrical experience, can I install any of this stuff on my own? Which of course, leads into my second question:

Would I be able to install these without the OEM connectors, or does that really increase the difficulty by a ton? And finally:

Anyone experienced any power issues with a lot of LEDs?

Sorry to be a bit of a 'newbie' on the subject, but all the cars I've had in the past were not worth tossing a bunch of Fast and Furious lights on them, though the spyder certainly is. Thanks for the info!

(And before anyone says anything, I've attempted googling most of this stuff, but I cannot find really good answers for Spyder questions...If I had a GSXR or an R6, I'd be set...but not a Spyder!)

I would venture to say yes..there are great DIY & threads on how to do LED installs on here. I just finished doing HMT brake light on my RT-S & was just looking at LED Flex Strips to put as turn signals on mirrors

Ground effect lights were the first think that I added to my spyder. I have also installed some on two other spyders and two other bikes. Led pull such a small amount of power they can be on for quite awhile with out worry. The kind that I use have multi color and are cut to make a custom fit. Takes me a total of 8 hours start to finish. I use a unit that plugs in to 12volt with a switch to turn off power to it. Then a remote to control the effects. All state codes are different as for here in pa almost anything goes as long as it doesn't look like a cop flashing between red and blue.

LED Light Kit

Check out www.xkglow.com I used the XK034008 set. Not difficult to install. My only recommendation is you really think about where you want to place them. Might suggest you use tape to place them temporarily and make sure you're getting the effect you want. It comes with a remote allowing you to turn on/off, choose color and choose light pattern.

Good price, etc.

I purchased the iPhone control set - havent installed them yet but should get around to them this week hopefully

I think under vehicle lights are illegal in a lot of states, but not sure how you find out what states don't allow them?

Or are you strictly talking about replacing stock lights w/ LED's?

Living in Virginia, and I have LEDs on mine.

Bazeel, let me know where you are in VA. Maybe we can get together so that I can show you my lighting scheme from TricLED (one of the sponsors of this sight). I have had no problems with "Johnny-Law", as a matter of fact, I was actually complimented by a VA Beach Policeman while I was cruisin' the Beach strip. PM me for more info.

I got the wifi kit from xkglow, I have install 2 of them on different bikes in the last couple weeks. They are not difficult to install, but require a bit of planning the location of the LEDs.

Can you do it on your own?
Absolutely!
But what should you do?
Contact Reggy at TricLEDS; he's a great supporter of all of us, will answer any question that you need to ask, and backs up his products 100% :2thumbs:

Installing the LED's aren't hard at all, and as already mentioned, the draw is minimal. If you have some electrical / electronic experience, then you can find sources to get the LED's, but in many of those cases, you need to come up with the connectors, and such. For the lesser experienced, I suggest getting the "kits" from either a sponsor on here, or a another vendor. That way, all the connectors are built for you, and it's more like "plug and play".

I got strips, and spools of LED's online, bought the connectors, and pins from Mouser Electronics, and built my own.

One thing to make sure of is that you have a connector anyplace where panels or other things will be separated. If I need to take my Spyder in for service, I just unplug all the connectors prior to taking it in, so that nothing gets broken during servicing. This last time, I did that, took her in, and when they finished with it, they plugged them all back in again, and made sure they worked!!!

Just like I said in your PM

:agree:with Bob. Reggy and his people have been nothing short of OUTSTANDING. I am in the process of getting a few more LEDs from them. Should be here in the next few days. Through their assistance, installs are a breeze. Trust me...I'm a novice, but that gave me the basic knowledge I needed to complete the installs with confidence.
