Kansas sure hasn't been as nice a ride as in the past! I'm almost at SF! I haven't had near the adventure with weather that Murphybrown had, but I'm glad I'm past what I did come through! 1743 miles so far. First couple of days in Idaho were pretty good while I took my time and made some side trips to take pictures of historical marker signs. Then came the Rockies. I failed in my attempt to outrun crummy weather and went through some light rain, a little bit of downpour, and then dry snow over the Divide. Spent the night in Denver, had breakfast with a grand niece and hubby, and headed toward Kansas.
Then came the wind! Persistent east wind that clobbered my gas mileage.:gaah:On Saturday from Hays to Junction City (Prairiespyder's home) it was cold, overcast, and drizzle for a ways. Note this. In Idaho, Utah, and even over the Rockies in Colorado I was averaging about 24 mpg pulling my "tent on a trailer". In Kansas, I have only averaged about 18 mpg! :banghead: Boy, I sure hope it has been the wind and not something gone haywire with my :spyder:. I stayed here in Pomona State Park last night near Vassar, KS. To add insult to injury there was only a few minutes of warm water in the shower this morning. The lady in the office didn't charge me a $3.25 vehicle fee in compensation so I'm pleased. I should get a good idea about mpg from here to SF. The weather is sunny, warming up, and no wind, yet! So Kansas will give me a very pleasant send off!
See you all in a few hours!
