• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Aftermarket trailer Hitch

Spend the extra couple of hundred bucks, and get the one that's designed to work on the bike...
Do a Search on this topic: you'll find all sorts of threads and posts which get rather... argumentative! nojoke
BRP's hitch comes with the wiring necessary, and it doesn't require pulling the axle...

Or... you can always buy the CHEEP one on E-Bay! :roflblack:

Check EBay they have good prices, a fraction of what the dealer wants. I paid 179.00 and it looks identical to the factory model. eBay also has the plug and play wiring for under 100.00. I made my own for about 25.

Ditto on the search. For questions such as this the search box is your friend. It will bring up hundreds of more comments, pro, con, relevant, irrelevant, friendly, unfriendly, you name it, than you will receive here.

There are basically two after market hitches sold under various names and by various sellers. There are a few options for the wiring harness. The bike is 5 wire. You'll have to figure out if you need 5 wire or 4 wire on your trailer. Each has it's own requirements for a harness.

Here's what I did. http://www.spyderlovers.com/forums/...-lights-Part-1&p=777333&viewfull=1#post777333

Who has them? Anyone have a good design for a home made one? Are wiring harnesses available?
Got mine from BIG BIKE PARTS. I used an after market relay isolator for a Gl1800. Used 5 wire set up. No problems. I am pulling a Bunkhouse Lil B camper at 280 lbs with my RS-S.

So you may be correct Bob, the Big Bike Parts hitch does not require removal of the axel. I am pulling my Bunkhouse Ltl B with no problems. Cheers ole man.

Removed Hitch

I just removed the hitch off of my 2013 RT today. We opted not to by the trailer since we do not do excessive long trips. And I got tired of the shin knocking every time I wash the bike. I was thinking of just putting it on Craigslist.

HOME MADE TRL HITCH

I have made 4, all worked very well....strong enough to pull my Toyt Echo 3100 lbs.....( not kidding ) I used 1/8 " thick flat stock 3" wide ( I know it sounds thin But read on ) prior to making the bends you need the use an angle grinder with a very thin blade to cut half way thru where you are going to bend ....this guarantee's a straight bend ( also makes it easier )after you bend to shape , fill in with weld material......To double the strength of the bend cut some 1 1/4" strap 3" long and place those inside the bends and weld in place as gussets .....the bends will not un-bend......I would make a wooden jig and clamp the 3" piece.......I also made end pieces for a BOLT THRU 5/8th rod .......Mike

Looks like you have a ready made buyer in SailnDive if you PM him:yes::popcorn::coffee:

Back when I was wanting a hitch for my 2010 RT, I did NOT know the Trailer Module CAME with the BRP trailer hitch. It was never indicated on this web site. SO, being budget minded, I ordered one that came from Canada, eh. Then I bought a trailer module from a dealer. I found out later there was a $50 difference.
Also, to save some funds, I drove all the way down to middle GA to pick up the hitch.

Doc-Riverside made me a harness to go from the round trailer module plug to the flat four connector on the 'Ooogly Trailer'. He did fine work on that harness. That trailer module was transferred over to the 2015 RT-S along with the trailer hitch.

So, I would say, get the best price on the BRP assembly of the trailer hitch and trailer module if you Spyder didn't come with one already. If not, buy the cheaper hitch.

PM me with some details...
