• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Aftermarket Grips

Have any of you guys, or gals, put any aftermarket grips on your Spyder yet? Are there any that I should stay away from? Please post any pics if possible. Thanks!

I installed some Kurakyn flame grips and screwed it up something awful. I suggest you try the fit before trying the Death Grip glue. I ended up skipping it on the second grip after the throttle wouldn't roll back anymore. Turns out the glue had solidified and pooled in one small spot. By then it was too late. The glue had set so I had to saw the grip out and sand the hell out of the bar.

That being said, the new grip looks and feels great. I'll post a pic later for yas.

I recently installed Pro-Grip 601 Scooter grips. Nice shape, comfortable gel-type. Very pleased with them, and only about $12. I had to trim off the ends so I could use the caps that come with the Spyder, and also to prevent interference with the throttle. Took the OEM grips off using a long thin screwdriver and a WD-40.

Is there a problem with the Spyder stock grips? When I test rode the Spyder, I couldn't tell that anything was wrong, but I really didn't get to ride it for a long time.

They were too small for me but I have big hands. That's why I had some 1.5" grips made. :doorag:

Hot Grips served two purposes for me: Larger diameter for my big hands and warmth!! Heated grips are absolutely fantastic in cold and cool weather. I'm able to wear medium weight gloves in the coldest winter days and my hands remain comfortable. In the early Spring and late Fall, the heated grips take the chill off of the hands. I love 'em!

I like them. Identical to the ones on my BMW, and those are the only stock ones I tolerate. The HotGrips will probably have to come into play before Fall gets here, though. Derwin, get your SE5 and ride it a bit first, then you can decide on what you want to change. With no previous experience, you don't really know what suits you yet. ;D

Hey, I'm selling a Spyder to a guy who wants heated grips. Tell me, what exact model did you order and what trouble, if any, you had with installation. Much appreciated.

Install is easy .. just follow instructions. Be sure to leave enough wire on the throttle side to allow for the throttle to open and close. Use grip glue that is NOT affected by heat .. a two-part type is usually the best. I would suggest you wire the grips to a switched wire so that you won't accidentally leave them on when you turn the ignition switch off and run the battery down.

I highly recommend a thermostat so a person can vary their temp rather than an on/off switch. The one I use is called the Heat Troller ( http://www.warmnsafe.com/motorcycle_product_TOC.php ). I've had both kinds .. the type you install in the dash and the ones you velcro on. I prefer the Heat Troller that you velcro on (see picture).

I've used various brands in my past but Hot Grips have always come out on top. There are now types that you can insert inside the bars (this would eliminate ever being able to use a Throttlemeister throttle lock, however). There are brands you can wrap around the bars (Dual Star ... http://www.dual-star.com/index2/Rider/heated_grip_kit.htm ) .
There are types that you can buy that will wrap around the grips which you can put on and take off by just plugging them into a power outlet. In my opinion, the best are the ones that replace the grips and the heat elements are built-in to the grips. These are also the most expensive but well worth it.

I purchased my Hot Grips and the Heat Troller from LockItt .. www.lockitt.com/AccessoriesGrips3.htm . Another good source is Twisted Throttle (www.twistedthrottle.com/trade/productview/2218/481/ ) They don't have the Heat Troller but they do have another type thermostat that could be used. A lot of good information on their web site also about Heated Grips.

There are other options .. just do a google search looking for: Motorcycle heated grips.
