There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. Advice on purchase of 2013 RT LTD

Hi All,

Please give a brother (1st time owner) some advice on the purchase of a 2013 RT LTD (1,600 miles). I have read many of the recall discussions. It seems the heat/fire issue is very real, but I'm not sure how statistically significant it really is. I know... it's significant if it happens to you/me.

This particular bike was meticulously maintained and has had no issues (confirmed). The previous owner traded for a new F3.

Like many, I don't know what the "fix" will be or if it will completely cure the problem(s). We have a deposit and are waiting to take delivery later this week. Should I cancel and hold out for a 2014? Or should I cautiously jump on?

Thanks in advance for your opinions and advice.

IMO, if you have not test ridden a '14 do so before you make a final commitment. You will love the 1330 triple engine and 6-speed transmission.

Thanks. I was hoping to save some cash with a slightly used model, but in the end it may be worth the extra for peace of mind and comfort.

The choice to go for a 2014 (if you are looking for used and less cash than new) is a wise one IMO.

It's not only the difference in the motor and transmission between the two, it's the maintenance cost between the 2 powerplants.

To me, the biggest advantage of a 2014 is the extra 10 MPG . . . that said, I love my 2013 RT LTD and will ryde it until one of us wears out. It all depends on how much you will save in the deal. Hopefully, the heat issue is about to be resolved . . .

Sadly.....

If your having doubts I'm of the opinion you test the 14 and then make the final decision. If the price difference is really big go with the 13. Most of the problems were dealt with and not all of them had this problem. Did you test the 13...?? :dontknow:

Just a short ride with nothing remarkable (except for the fun). Happened upon a thread about the recall and heat issue for the 2013, while looking for something unrelated. Somehow I missed the issue with the research I did. Very disappointed now. :banghead: :gaah:

If it were me, knowing what I know, and having test drove the 14 model I would cancel and go with the 14. A used 14 if need be to save some dough. JMO

What ever fits the budget

We have almost 22000 miles on our RTL (2013) and no problems. I will say that I like the 1330 engine and the improved gas mileage.........BUT the 2013 sounds better!:yes::yes:

I have had both the 13 and 14. Not only the engine and transmission but the entire front suspension was changed on the 14.

I had heat and gas fume problems with the 13 that were never and maybe will never be resolved.

Cancel and look for a used or new 14. Totally new and improved machine.

It's your money, and it's your call...
That having been said...
The 2014 model year bike was such an improvement over the previous versions, that it changed the game.
BRP gave us a new engine, transmission, clutch lock-up system, charging system, and cooling system.
The new bikes require a whole lot fewer trips to the dealers for servicing, and the much better fuel economy now makes 200 miles between fuel stops possible.
I loved my 2010...
But the things that needed improvement on it: BRP nailed...
And the things that were already perfect; they managed to improve also! nojoke
