• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

adjust parking brake and pad wear

Good morning, I just replaced the brake pads on my 2014 RT LTD and was wondering how to ck the cable for correct adjustment. I've researched and found videos on older ones where you remove the nut and turn it clockwise to tighten and then turn back a little and put the nut back on (the same as a clutch adjustment on my Yamaha Virago) but I can't find any for my bike. Any tips?

When I changed the pads the left front was worn down to the bottom of the wear line and the rt front was fine and the rear was worn almost to the wear line at 17,000 mikes. On all 3 one side was significantly worn more than the other. Is this normal?

Thanks, Mike

'Normal', unfortunately more common that it should be. Right? No.

Ideally both pads should wear the same. It is usually the piston side that wears first in systems that are not working correctly. This is due to the pads not sliding on the pin as they should. I like to clean the pin and contact area for the pads and give them a very thin coat of anti-seize. This should help and may eliminate the problem of uneven pad wear.

Here's what you do....

Adjust the cable till the park brake is on...I find if you just push the lever/wheel till it bumps then tighten down the adjuster you can better tell where your at.Then back off 41/2 turns and lock it in place ( put a magic marker dot on one flat surface of the nut to help count the full turns). This is according to the manual for the GS,RS,RSS models but would think it the same for all. They state wheel off the ground but I am guessing so you can turn the wheel but I do it on the ground and push it as you have a better ideal if it is holding. :agree: with the whole wearing thing....

I cleaned the pins good and cut the grooves in the pads and beveled them. I also used the CRC pink stuff on the pads and the shims. Thanks, Mike
