AAF (always ask forum): SEALs & brakes

Hi guys! Need advice from the forum again! Just bought some SEAL pup boards and took them to dealer for install. I'm mechanically challenged & never put anything on bike myself. I had an extra large rubber brake pedal on my 2012 RT which I had to replace, as I was unable to depress brake fully without it running into the board. After replacing with the original sized rubber piece, the brake at full extension was BELOW the board, and to stop I would have to squeeze my toe in the board hole to depress it fully. Not safe! Then my dealer put a shim under the rubber brake piece which raised it up about 1/2 inch, so I was able to brake fully without the brake pedal being below the board. During this time I called John twice at SEAL, and he was very nice and helpful. I even had him talk to the dealer mechanic- it quickly gets over my head. But John thought there was something wrong with the length of travel in the brake itself. He thought the linkage could have some problem. I tried to convey this to the mechanic, but was not successful. Mechanic said the throw length for brake was controlled by 2 rods, neither of which could be adjusted. This part is just way above my skill level or knowledge base. So my question to forum is first- has anyone else had a similar problem and if so how did you solve it. Second- I heard that there was an adjustment made for the 2013 RT so that the same problem would not manifest with their foot boards. Can anyone tell me what that was? Is there some part that I could get that would make this brake throw length a bit less? If I could have the pedal stop about an inch from the board when fully depressed as in a panic stop, I think it would be a bit better. And then I could replace my long rubber brake pedal which I do like. What a mess just to put on floor boards! So forum, give me your thoughts. Sorry for such a long post & thanks for your advice! I can always count on you spyderlovers out there!

Did John send you the block to put under the pedal when the boards are installed? That should have taken care of everything.

:agree: I have the oversized pedal and it isn't even close to touching. I have 1/2 inch between the pedal and the floorboard when fully depressed.

I'm seeing my "very smart" tech. today and hope he can shed some light on this. I have lots of room on my brake when it's fully depressed. Looking for any help from you guys Her tech. said he put 1/2" bolts on top of my shim and it was still an inch below the Floorboard. He installed the boards but I can't imagine how he could not do it right because it's so simple and straight forward. Ideas? This is a new one on me!

Is it possible to adjust the height of the pedal by turning the turnbuckle linkage?
I just came from my Tech at ProCaliber in Longview, wa. He showed me the top turnbuckle and said that is where the adjustment should be made. We tested three Spyders (including mine)and none had more than about a 2" throw. I cannot make my brake touch the floorboard. The looong throw described doesn't sound right. Either the turnbuckle needs to be adjusted or maybe the brakes need bleed.
