A way to beat the heat while riding

It gets hot, really hot at times as you know. I find that even a textile motorcycle jacket can be an oven. So I found an alternative. I can now ride with just a tee shirt and stay protected. I took two rides wearing this combo and I like it. I also plan to wear it with a rain jacket as well as a winter coat tp suite the conditions.

I also wear these elbow guards. I like them because they are very slim.

First question that comes to my mind is how do you keep your upper arm/shoulder from getting all torn up if you hit the asphalt? Even the extra elbow guards won't keep you from tearing up your shoulder, I don't think. If you watch the video compilations of motorcycle failures and crashes you'll see the vast majority of the riders slide on their shoulders at least part of the time.

Great reasoning for using such in hot weather, but ......:dontknow:

I find that my mesh jacket plus a wet cool vest works wonderfully, even in 100+ weather.

Soaker vest and Frogg Tog neck wrap (wet of course) with a mesh jacket fully armored. Or a wet long sleeved t-shirt under mesh jacket.

The Magic Number is....

100 degrees. If the ambient temperature is over 100 degrees you are best to keep as covered as possible, even closing helmet vents. You see your body is 98.6 so when the outside air is lower that that having everything opened up is a good thing. However when the outside temperature is over 100 you want OT do everything you can to stay completely covered as your body is cooler than the ambient temperature. In this case your body will start to absorb heat from the air around you, your body heats up and if it continues you start to dehydrate, you can become dizzy, lose control of your vehicle or develop heat stroke. Not good. So when it hits triple digits, close those vents on your textile jackets and your helmet, and you will remain cooler than if you riding shirtless, oh and you will remain alive, and you won't sunburn the living day lights out of your arms either. Cooling vests and neck wraps are a great help also.

Geared more to the young crotch rocket ryder. Does seem to be cool well when not covered from statements made in the ad. I find the "Heat Out" (or similar types) under garments work best for me. :thumbup:

What is a wet cool vest? Yes, I did put some more thought into it since I posted. I took the back protector out of my mesh jacket (it was crap anyway) and wear the vest under it. It works fine. I have this jacket: http://joerocket.com/catalog/index.cfm/234/119/Leather_Jackets/Reactor_2.0_[mesh]
