just be careful they don't tell you that you need a valve adjustment for $800 or $900. At least two dealers have told people that
BRP requires that when most of us know it probably isn't necessary at 12000Miles
Just remember, BRP has not OFFICIALLY posted the new valve check/adjustment table that I was told was coming. I can not recall anyone that had valves out of adjustment at even 18000 miles.[/QUOTE
Our 2008 SE5, when checked by the tech at 43,000 miles before resale, it did not need a valve adjustment. I had never had the valves checked or adjusted. I know of one owner who paid for the service and was shown by and HONEST tech when he started having issues, that the valve covers had never come off. We each have to make our decisions on trusting our dealer, but some are really questionable when there is no proof of a service being done (except if you know what to look for from the outside of the engine). As for me, I change my own oil (Royal Purple, 10W40, Automotive Synthetic) and filter and ride my Spyder. I don't suggest anyone else do that, but it has worked for me.
I just had 24000 miles done ,cost was $900:yikes:
I tend to agree. Valve clearance problems are obvious for the most part, and don't cause damage right away if you are paying attention (and the exhaust valve metalurgy is good). If you want to avoid possible warranty questions in the future, however, it would be best to get your dealer's blessing on extending this maintenance task interval......IMHO--avoid valve checks early on unless you have obvious engine issues.
I just had my 12,000 mile service done yesterday. I had to drop it off the night before because they said it needed to be "cold". Price for labor + parts was a little over $700. Thank goodness I don't have to do this again for another 12K miles! Guess I'll start saving now for that one!
