• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

600 Mile Service

When changing the oil, oil filter and transmission filter during the 600 mile service, is there anything special I should know? I called my local dealer to inquire about the availability of the supplies needed and he said they do in fact have the new, longer transmission filter but that it required a dealer to install it and the new cap? Does it really require the dealer or is he blowing smoke?

EDIT: After doing some more searching, I found a thread that referenced a new panel that is for the dealer to install but not for DIYers. My nearest dealer is Big Number 1 in Birmingham, AL and they want $408 plus fees and tax!!! I called the dealer in Hamilton, AL and they quoted $200 plus tax. I will be riding to Hamilton to get the 600 mile service done for sure.

It really depends on your dealer! Do you have the new service bulletin and part coupon that was sent out? Mine was in for a new clutch, he ask for the coupon and installed the new panel. While there I purchased two oil change service kits and they opened them and replaced the old style filters with the new wiremesh style and threw in the new longer filler cap. No extra charge. I do not believe you "have to " have the dealer do the oil change in order to get the new filters and replacement cap!

Since I never recieved the coupon, I inquired, BRP is no longer sending out hte coupon. My dealer just installed for no extra charge back in August.

The oil filter and cap are readily installed by an owner. Your dealer is confused, or blowing some smoke your way. The new left side lower panel and grill is free to owners when serviced by the dealer, but they can refuse to provide it, at their discretion, if they do not do the service. The policy varies from dealer to dealer.

Please understand that there is more to the 600 mile service than a mere oil and filter change. The BUDS check for fault codes, and downloading any necessary updates must be done by a dealer, and the first belt tensioning is best done with the dealer's sonic gauge. The dealer is also more familiar with the machine than a new owner, and may be more thorough in checking the machine over. many times the find little problems that the new owner did not notice. Also be aware that the 600 mile service must be done and documented (preferably by the dealer) for the warranty to remain in effect. The warranty registration you signed should have stated that fact. I'm a big fan of home maintenance, but the 600 mile service can benefit from a trip to the dealer. JMHO
