• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

5th Generation Fighters

Thanks

Fighters and aircraft in general, have come a long way since the days we were bending wrenches on the latest and greatest at Edwards AFB.

Hi Jerbear,

Re: the latest and greatest at Edwards AFB.

I was stationed there from July '60 to Aug '61; good memories of that place.

What did you do there & when?

Eddies Air Patch is what we called it

Hey Jerry

'67 & '68 - pneudraulics - on numerous test model AC

and from there, Nam.

And you?

Wish there were no need for them. Can you imagine what is spent world wide on arms, weapons and munitions ?

Nobody ever wishes for War.
(Unless you're an evil General in a really bad movie. :D)
But you have to be prepared to defend what you believe in.

I know there is the way things are and the way you wish they could be. Can you imagine if all that money could go else where ?

A recent discussion I was having with some avaition friends. There had been a lot of talk concerning the 22 and 35, plus the cancelling of the 22 program. Ironically, it was stated that an FA 22 airframe upgraded to the slightly more modern F35 electronics became and even more dominant aircraft. Superior to the F35 in almost every situation.

In modern times, these may be the aircraft we see, however, no smart country should show all its might. The FA22 is approaching 20 years old. The technology in electronics, airframe materials and construction, plus highly capable unmanned aircraft technolgy should make any fighter pilot fear current technology.

Wasn't the 22 originally planned to be OUR fighter (No holds barred!!), and the JSF was going to be the one that we sold to our Allies (ALMOST as good...)? :dontknow:

Sort of. The FA22 test program, incredible aircraft, as the video shows, basically most other aircraft flown against it is bringing a knife to a gun fight.

The one aircraft I would worry about, maybe, is the Chinese cloned F22. I am sure the govt knows if that aircraft is capable or not, and who else may have it.

All the more reason to undesrtand Gen 6 is / should be active currently and Gen 7 is being developed.

This cutting edge technology waits for no one, and there is a reason the rest of us do not know.

115 years from first flight, took 40 years to get jets, another 20 for SR71, about 50 years since the 71 first flew.

Living in West Palm, I now routinely see AF 1 on approach. As for whatever is there watching, I can hear them well before, and during AF 1 based here. I may hear them, can't see them, they are fast and constantly running odd headings.

I watched F4's taking off when I was stationed at Kessler AFB in the 80's. That was a bad ass plane

The similar ideas explained where the J 20 is possibly designed to remove support for US aircraft, is also a reason to consider that N Korea has similar intentions via missles.

The public gets concerned regarding a possible missle hitting the continental USA. Consider if aerial support platforms were removed, air dominence suffers quickly. Tankers are not exactly made for manuevers or high speed getaways. While they may have some ability to hide, visually it is almost an elephant hiding behind a palm tree.
