Got our 13RT Limited at the end of December 2013. This was our first bike ever so we were green as you could possibly be. I think since that first weekend we have missed maybe two weekends of riding due to weather. We just rolled over 5K miles and I thought I'd toss my thoughts on this particular model since there has been some unsatisfied customers.
Since we got it and it was cold this past winter, we never really ran into the heat issue at first. We've had all the updates performed from the dealer. As the weather started to get warmer I knew I would want more airflow so I opted for the Baker Wings. It took me a while to get over the look but once I installed them, I became a huge fan! I highly suggest them not only for the heat but for cold and wet weather as well.
It took me a little while to get comfortable with the higher revs and hitting that 5000 rpm shifting range but it sure makes for some smooth shifting between the gears. Also learning to ease your grip and trust the bike sure makes for a much smoother ride. If you are an new owner do yourself a favor and go read the Do's & Don't Thread. Once you read, print it off and read it again and again.
We added the Baja Ron Swaybar, Laser Alignment, Third and Fourth Brake Lights, Fender Lights, Ultimate Tall Boy Seat with the Revco Matching Arm Rest and Butler Cup Holder. Still looking to add JT's Air Filter Replacement and maybe Lamont's Cat ByPass.
All in all I am more than pleased to tell anyone who has a question about the 13RT's to go for it. I cannot comment on the 14's yet because I haven't ridden one yet. I am sure they are a great bike but for me it was hard to justify $8k difference in price. That can buy a lot of farkles and petro. I also believe that it depends on your local dealer and if they are a good dealer or a subpar dealer. Even if your dealer is a great dealer I suggest that you go behind them and check their work before leaving their lot.
Here's to another carefree 5k miles
