• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

I feel I have been very fortunate over the past 29 months to have never had any issues (except for blown exhaust gaskets ;)).
I love my Spyder!
Over the past week, I had began noticing a noise, and feeling in the footpegs when decelerating, beginning around 50 mph. No issues accelerating, cruising, or otherwise. And, it seemed to go away, if I pulled in the clutch. Very strange, I thought.
My dealer was thinking a pulley, or wheel bearing. Possibly. But, of course, when I went by the dealer yesterday, I could not replicate it the parking lot. And, it was just too cold for the head mechanic to run it down the street for a little check (42 degrees).
His plan is to call BRP on Monday, and run it by them.
So; today, it's going to be in the mid 60s, and the Wife planned a little ride. The problem didn't seem to be worsening.
I washed & detailed the Spyder while Jean went grocery shopping a couple of hours ago. Then; I rode the 3.5 mi. to fuel up before our little trek today.
On the way back to the house as I'm pulling into my drive, I hear the noise. My drive is around 100 or so feet, I guess. And, it slope down a few degrees to garage. It's sounds like a clunk, clunk, clunk...
So; I decide to pull the clutch in, and release it once or twice.
I then, back it up to the top of the drive, check it again. Same thing..
Now... I back it up again. This time, I shut off the engine, and let it coast down. It sounds like, maybe, it's the rear wheel bearing. It's very noticeable.
And, next time, I dismount, holding onto the grab bar letting it roll slowly.
Yep! Something is amiss. ;( I'm taking it to the dealer next weekend. And, let them keep it as long as needed. I'm very lucky to have a great dealer.

Turns out, 2 of the other BRP dealers in the area have gone out of business. Plus; the Triumph dealer in Little Rock has closed. And, since FRS is also a Triumph dealer, they have their work, as well. When I do get my Spyder over to the dealer, it could take 2+ weeks to complete the work. Oh well.

Thank goodness, I bought the B.E.S.T. warranty!

Does sound like the bearing. I think the demise of many bearings was the extreme belt tension required in the original specs. BRP has lowered that value twice.

Bearings should last a lot longer with this, more reasoanble tension. Not to mention the other drive components as well.

Let us know the final diagnosis.

Sorry to hear of your probs. Hopefully it is still early enough in the riding season for them to get it back to you fairly quickly. Keep us informed.
 

If that's it, sounds like a simple fix. Like I mentioned, as well, the mechanic thought it might be the rear wheel bearing or the sprocket.
Whatever it is, I've accepted it might be 2 weeks or more to get it repaired. But, that's okay! We're not even into springtime weather in the midsouth yet.
I just hope this isn't the beginning of problems. It's been such a great machine!
 
The mechanic diagnostic was correct: front sprocket. :shocked:

That would have been my first guess as well by the description of the noise. But he said it was coming from the BACK of the bike. How do you get front sprocket noise coming from the rear of the Spyder?

You have a good point. It is hard to tell where the noise comes from sometimes, however, especially with a tall windshield. Front sprocket noise is also muffled by the bodywork, so it comes out at the opening near the front of the wheel, while the bearing noise comes from the middle of the wheel. all is behind the rider, so it can be difficult to differentiate. To top it off...it could easily be both sources. It matters not...the dealer is going to have to track it down and repair it, either way.
 
Best of luck getting your issue resolved before the ryding season gets going really strong. I just had my front sprocket replaced at almost 17,000 miles for a different issue, so you are doing very well so far.
