2015 RT-S Special Series Backrest

Can someone help me out with the correct one to purchase? I just purchased a used 2015 from a private party and am learning more about Spyders. Everything I could find online gave me the impression it is a comfort seat (charcoal with red stiching), so I originally ordered the comfort seat backrest. I had a bit of an issue installing the bracket - the internal nuts came loose, but I was able to get the bracket on enough to try fitting the backrest and it seemed to be mounted too far to the rear by 3/4"-1" and was deforming the opening in the seat for the backrest and pulling the seat fabric back and puckering it quite a bit. My dealer has now ordered a "black" production backrest, as that is supposedly what is in his catalog, but I'm a bit skeptical.

Are there differences in the brackets between the production and comfort seats?

Does anyone have any experience with the internal nuts coming loose and being able to mount a bracket subsequently?

I see a lot of great information here and hope someone can help me out.

i think you need the standard seat backrest. the comfort seat seating area measures
17" long X 16" wide. yours is the stock special series seat. they call all the stock
seats" comfort " seats in the literature.--irv

Stock vs comfort seat

I too have the 2015 RTs Special Series and I believe you have the standard stock seat due to the red stitching. The "Comfort Seat" only comes with white stitching and the drivers backrests are different for each seat. I bought the comfort seat for mine and I bought a red fabric pen and colored the stitching to match the passenger backrest and the Utopia drivers backrest. If you bought a backrest for a comfort seat I'm not sure it will fit correctly. Hope this helps, Wayne.

By any chance: do you still have your standard seat also? :dontknow:
A picture of both seats (side by side...), would be a great comparison tool.

Here are pictures. The seat on the left is the OEM stock seat; the one on the right is the Comfort Seat that moves the driver back 2". You can see from the picture where the extra driver leg room comes from when the seat back position slot is moved rearward. Hope this helps.

Thanks everyone! The pics definitely help! I didn't realize the comfort seat actually gave the rider a little more leg room. Not an issue for me since I'm only 5'8".:thumbup: I've located a backrest for the stock seat in charcoal grey, so hopefully we'll be all set tonight!
