Greetings all,
I have a 2011 RTS with 44,000 miles on it. The first 30,000 miles were problem free but over the last 14,000 miles the Spyder has been in two different shops at least five times for the same issue, check engine, limp home, and two codes P1120 and P2620.
I already know that these codes both point to the TPS and that there was an issue with the 2011 throttle bodies. Alas, I am on my third TPS and second throttle body yet the problem persists. My current dealership has consulted with BRP about this and has flat out told me (without actually saying the words, but I can read between the lines) that they're not going to tear it apart again until I remove all of my aftermarket LEDs.
They claim that they just sent technicians to Spyder school and that this issue in particular was discussed at length and it is their position that my aftermarket lights are causing the problem. They say that my TPS is "bouncing all over the place" despite having just reset it. They want me to disconnect everything and ride it around to observe the results. The problem though is that this is an intermittent problem that can stay away for days or weeks at a time.
I am curious as to what others who have had this problem were told. I am an alarm technician and I work with low voltage electronics all the time and I find this explanation to be a cop-out but it would seem that I have no choice but to jump through their hoop because they've pretty much told me that they aren't going to do anything with it this time. I guess I'm picking it up and tearing it apart when I get home.
Opinions and experiences please... also, please refrain from suggesting that I trade it in. I am in the process of buying a house so that is not an option right now, unless you'd like to donate to my cause.
Thanks.
