• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

2009 RS SE5 won't shift gears

I just purchased my Spyder less than a month ago but have noticed that most times when I start her up, she won't shift into reverse. No rhyme or reason to it. I rode her to work this morning, pulled into a parking spot and thought I would turn her around and back into my spot....started her back up (she's in neutral by default) and couldn't get her to go into reverse. My husband is telling me that I'm hitting the controls wrong because he can get her in reverse usually on the first try. I'm thinking he's just having good luck. I push the downshift lever forward and push in the R button....what am I missing? :banghead:

From page 26 of your owners manual.

Shifting Into Reverse (SE5Model)
1. With engine running. the roadster
stopped, and the brake depressed.
2. Press and hold the reverse button.
3. Pull the gearshift selector toward
you to downshift to reverse.

There you go...!!

if it is proceedural all the above. If its not that then there are other things to check like oil level and condition, actuator and pinch bolt on the shifter arm. looks like it is just getting the process working for you if all the other gears are working fine...

Grrrrrr...thanks everyone. I would have bet money on it that the manual had you hold in the reverse button last. I've been doing it incorrectly and just getting lucky on occasion.....but, hubby has too. :gaah:

There are another few things about the shifter you may want to know.

To shift from 1st to Reverse. Stop, press the R button, pull and hold the sifter lever. It will double shift into reverse.

To shft from Reverse to 1st. Stop press and hold the shft lever. It will double shift into 1st.

If you are in 1st and want to shift into neutral and happen to press/hold the shift lever. It will not shift at all. It must be a press release.
