• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

2008 Spyder with Check Engine Warning

Questions

Hi,

Just picked up a 2008 Spyder RS SM5 today with 850km on it. I got home turned it off, moved a few things in the garage and returned to start it up to put it away. After starting the bike. the Check Engine Warning displayed and I was unable to see which gear I selected as the display showed E on it. The dealership who I purchased it from isn't to helpful with info, I was just wondering if anyone has had the same issues in the past and how did you fix the issue. If you could let me know it will be appreciated.

Thanks John

The E indicates a gear position error, can you get it to shift gears at all? Did you try to move it forward or backwards, sometimes that will clear the E. I have a manual and I typically get the E if I have to brake really hard and don't have time to downshift through the gears but it goes away as soon as I get to 1st or start moving again.

Welcome welcome....

To both this site and the spyder world...the check engine light comes on for a bunch of reasons. The E indicates the gear positioning sensor is not finding the gear. This could be a bad sensor or a miss shift. You should download the spyder codes app (free) so you can see how to pull codes and what they mean. Start by taking the key out and giving the computers time to reset. Then restart and see if they clear. Manually shift and rock the spyder to make sure it is in gear pull in the clutch and start her up then ryde and shift normally. Should clear up, if not you may need to replace the sensor....

Hi John, from oz too

with such low km, your bike has been sitting around a while! May I suggest a service, changing all fluids?

other suggestion is battery - our lovely machines throw a bunch of codes if the battery is dying. If it's the original, I'd buy another one straight away. Talk with your dealer for at the least a cost price.

also I can pass on contacts of good people who can help with your issue. Feel free to message me if you wish.

I have a 2008, and every now and then I get the E. For me it's typically because I had the spyder in reverse when I shut the engine off. To clear my E, I switch the engine off, and wait a minute, and start it up again. Have you tried shifting while you are sitting there with the E displayed?
