• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Any tips on the process of replacing the Old/malfunctioning ECM on a 2010 RS with a New ECM?

I started with plugs and wires on an older machine; as many have said it can be that. The stock wires are not great, BajaRon's are. He offers a great set with wire/plugs. Even if that isn't the problem, it is a great improvement. Check that there is spark on both wires. The ECM out threw a code...

Any tips on the process of replacing the Old/malfunctioning ECM on a 2010 RS with a New ECM?

It worked! The original ECM was trash (as I thought). Swapped to the used ECM that I had purchased, let BUDS work its magic reworking the new ECM and marrying it to the cluster. A short process, and "Old Blue" is running on two cylinders again. It will be nice not to orphan it as a parts...

Any tips on the process of replacing the Old/malfunctioning ECM on a 2010 RS with a New ECM?

Not sure, Dick. But from what I've read, the first gen DESS is programmed separate from BUDS/ECM and was done using the ignition lock/keys and a dealer red key to activate it when the first key was inserted to program. From what I've also read, it sounds as though most dealers don't have that...

Any tips on the process of replacing the Old/malfunctioning ECM on a 2010 RS with a New ECM?

Have been exploring more with the ECM issue of this early gen Spyder RS. I think I'm pretty screwed if the original ECM cannot be revived by BUDS/Megatech, as the salvage ECM cannot be tied to the 1st gen DESS system of the bike! Short of finding a new lock, installing it, and then finding a...

Had to wear Gloves for Can Am riding course - Do you wear gloves? Why? Or why not?

I ride with gloves... light for warm, waterproof for rain and coldweather waterproof. I've been hit in the mitts with rocks and bugs enough to know it stings pretty bad at speed... and helps with sunburn to have the hands covered too. Then I don't have to soak my hands in Palmolive dish soap...

Any tips on the process of replacing the Old/malfunctioning ECM on a 2010 RS with a New ECM?

I think you gave me info on the manual. I bought it and downloaded it. However, since then, I've had a computer crash (actually 2) but my buddy has a copy I made on a USB stick, only he lives a few hours away. I had looked for an ECM specific procedure, but I didn't find one in that document...

Any tips on the process of replacing the Old/malfunctioning ECM on a 2010 RS with a New ECM?

Yes... I didn't see a section detailing it in the manual. I've had the ECM in and out, but the new ECM needed programming, so I bought the bullet and got the full BUDS set up.

Any tips on the process of replacing the Old/malfunctioning ECM on a 2010 RS with a New ECM?

I now have the Megatech license for BUDS and will be looking further into my 2010 RS that is firing on only 1 cylinder. New plugs, wires, coil, so I have found a few that had their ECM quit around the same mileage (24k). I have a salvage ECM to replace the hopefully malfunctioning one. Has...

Is there anyone who can Turn off DESS in Wisconsin?

I was able to install and turn off DESS today... so no surprises, at least with the key, on long trips this summer. YAY! Thanks for the help.

Is there anyone who can Turn off DESS in Wisconsin?

Thanks... I just tried it with the supplied code, adding it to BUDS (same version) and it won't read the ECM... I have a note out to them. Thanks for your help, Dick. Worst case I'll be headed south to SpyderJerry, as he has buds with the working Megatech and will help me if I need him to...

Is there anyone who can Turn off DESS in Wisconsin?

I'll look into that... thanks for the info. I just want to turn DESS off. I've got 3 unchipped keys cut that work on the bags/trunk and ignition. I just need to prevent being stuck in the Texas Hill Country with a DESS error. Mine is a new-to-me '14 RT, first season beyond the 6 years with my...

Is there anyone who can Turn off DESS in Wisconsin?

Riding season is almost here in WI. The weather keeps going up and down like a roller coaster. I'll be on a long trip in early June and would like to disable my 2014 RT DESS beforehand... so as not to get stranded somewhere along the way to and fro. I live in Beaver Dam WI. Is someone near who...

Is there a Key Blank available for 2014+ Spyders?

I have a 2014 RT (new to me) and have only 1 key. I am planning to disable DESS because of the many that have experienced problems and secure the bike with locked handlebars on trips, rather than being stranded with the DESS error. Is there a blank key available that is unchipped, to work with...

2025 Planning 11th Memorial Trip to Central Texas (in memory of my wife)

My father stood on the castle floor high up in the air when it was being built. I remember visiting Longhorn Cavern near there. And someone else mentioned Enchanted Rock... have been there and the trail up. Will have great memories riding in that area ... my dad passed in July. My parents...

What Communication devices do you use between rider/pillion & other riders in your group?

Use both the old Sena SMH10... still going strong with a battery change ... and the Sena 50s. The newer mesh 50s makes linking up a group easier and range longer as it daisy chain hops between riders. For 2 with wife on back, the SMH10 are great and they were good even in our group of 4...
