• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

    looking for help getting spyders

I've sent another PM (Private Message). There should be a menu item "My PM's" near the top left of the screen. With a counter showing the number of unread PMs you have. Unless you have disabled PMs in your settings, in which case it should probably have let me know when I sent it. But it didn't.

    looking for help getting spyders

As my sig line says, it's a 2016 RT Limited. So it comes with GPS, sound, etc. Didn't you receive my PM, sent about a week ago?

    looking for help getting spyders

Mine will shortly be available from JFK. I'm riding it to Auckland tomorrow morning for them to sell on behalf. It's coming up to 3 years old, but has less than 9,000km on the clock. I'm just not riding it, and there's no point in having it sitting around in the garage on a battery tender...

Spyders for rent in New Zealand

I recently talked to Haydon at JFK about them selling mine on behalf. They would do that for a fixed fee. So you always have that option as well if you buy one and don't get it sold before leaving the country. When are you planning to make the trip to New Zealand? Depending on the time mine...

Spyders for rent in New Zealand

There are at least 2 companies that have rented out Spyders in the past, but neither of them is showing a Spyder on their current list of bikes. My Spyder had actually been hired out by the importer and used for a trip around the country before I purchased it. The largest retailer in the...

    2018 Yamaha Nikon three wheeler

Having ridden a Piaggio MP3 for some distance, and having owned 2-wheel scooters in the past, I wouldn't have any objection to keeping one in the garage if it had had some more power. More or less like the Yamaha Niken. The two front wheels makes it feel much more stable in corners, especially...

    Cigarette plug amperage

Doesn't that socket disconnect when the ignition is switched off? If so, it wouldn't be very useful for a battery maintainer.

    Increasing daytime visibility

One of the most useful safety gadgets, if only someone could build one, would be a remote control that could switch off all handheld mobile phones within a radius of 200 metres or so. You get an instant fine if caught, but its definitely not unusual to see drivers checking or entering text...

    Am I the only one?

I'm definitely not holding my thumb and forefinger on the gearshift paddles. But the forefinger is so close to the paddle that the involuntary movement when I lift my thumb to change up is enough to trigger a downchange first. Two possible options are to trim a little off the outside edge of the...

    Am I the only one?

    1. Often when manually cancelling the indicators I end up indicating to the opposite side. There is no apparent friction or detent to provide some resistance to the sideways movement of the switch, or to make it easier to hit the cancel setting. Even when trying very carefully to cancel it ends...

Iron Butt - New Zealand Style

I know Gull is not found on the South Island, but the unmanned Gull stations in the North Island should be open 24 hours a day. They are entirely self-service. Just give them your credit card and you're good to fill, with no other human intervention. See http://gull.nz/locator and select the...

Iron Butt - New Zealand Style

If you know your way around there is definitely no shortage of interesting roads with very little traffic on the North Island. Sounds like you found a few of them on the way, including the back road from Waitomo to Kawhia. The cops are usually located on the state highways, but do venture...

    Battery Replacement

I often wondered about this. You don't install a special charging circuit in your vehicle when you install this battery. So why would a special charger be required? Install it in the vehicle and run the vehicle and the battery will charge up the same as any normal lead-based battery. And...

Want to Maintain the battery Using the Trunk 12v Plug

Instead of a 110V supply would it be possible for you to install a small solar panel that is intended to maintain charge on a 12V battery? Some years ago I did this to maintain a bike battery during winter months. The small panel had a long lead so it could be installed on the roof of the...

    Go Pro Vs Dash Cam?

Sounds good. Where have you located the cameras, the GPS, and the control unit? Any advice would be appreciated if/when I get around to installing one.

    Go Pro Vs Dash Cam?

I use a dash cam in the car, but not on the Spyder, since it's not waterproof. I've also tried a GoPro-type camera, but gave up keeping it waterproof while being powered by the Spyder. However, I have seriously considered permanently installing an Innovv K1 motorcycle camera, with a camera...

Changing headlight bulb - remove front end?

Yesterday I visited the dealer to have a replacement windshield fitted. The tech was busy with another RTL, a 2014 with a blown headlight bulb on the left hand side. Apparently the whole front end had to be removed to replace the bulb, as there is an air inlet duct too close to the back of the...

    Riding without windshield

Thanks for all the suggestions and comments. Yes, I could have cut down the original windshield, but I'd still have to add the louvered vent to get an equivalent windshield. On hot days that vent should be very useful, as even with my limited experience it seems the stock shield would not...
