• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

To Get Valves Adjusted or Not on 998?

Totally agree with spyderman and I wasn't trying to push that any other direction. I was hoping some would find the information useful. Like I said I do my own and its pretty cheap if you don't count the labor its usually just a couple gaskets and possibly shims if it needs adjusted. I...

To Get Valves Adjusted or Not on 998?

The problem with waiting to do this maintenance is that by the time your engine starts running poorly you've potentially already done damage. Thus the reason for checking clearance is to ensure you don't damage your engine. I don't have much experience with the internals of this engine yet...

    Maintenance feedback.

Thanks for the reply but it looks like he took his to a dealer. I don't trust dealers to do things like the valve adjustments. Keep in mind this has nothing to do with can am shops. I ride a kawasaki concours. It is a great bike but the shims seem to need replacing every time a person does...

    Maintenance feedback.

Im a newbie over here but I see a disturbing trend and want to get clarification. Have any of you guys that do your own maintenance done the valve check and found all was well? I ride a kawasaki concours and it is alarmingly common for every person who takes their bikes to the shop to be told...

    Antifreeze leak?

How would someone go about getting to this adjustable hose clamp? From what ive seen looking at pictures only im guessing this clamp joins the two radiators near the top were it then heads back toward the engine. Can you get to it from below? Will I need to remove the Frunk? Thanks again.

    Antifreeze leak?

Well looks like a weekend project. Thanks for the replies. I also used the search function :banghead: that I should have used first and found some info. I guess I'll just keep everyone posted if its something new.

    Antifreeze leak?

After doing about 5 minutes of research looks like it might be coming from the radiator drain plug. That is right over where im seeing the drip. Looks like the side panel and lower black panel are pretty easy to remove. Next question is whether or not this is something common and to look...

    Antifreeze leak?

My wife has a 14 RS-S and while sitting over the winter i noticed that there is a small drip of possibly antifreeze dripping down from the front right of the bike. I have never had much of the bike apart. I am fairly handy with tools. I'm not afraid of doing shim under bucket valve...

    Oil change WTF!!!!

That could explain why it's not blowing a fuse. I thought I saw a fuse labeled park break though. In the manual it said if the ((!)) was flashing check fuse 1 I think. I checked it and it was fine.

    Oil change WTF!!!!

Well I thought I read the manual. Maybe not in enough detail. Unfortunately the bike has another issue which is going to prevent me from taking it for a ride. When the key is on and the parking brake is on the spring gets hot. I don't mean warm I mean smoke was coming from the area. The spring...

    Oil change WTF!!!!

Ok so got bike back from dealer for wiring short and finally got to my oil change. Drained oil changed filter. Put 3 qts in and started bike. Shut bike off added another quart and there is no oil on the dipstick. 4 quarts in and not even showing on the dipstick. What am I missing. It's a 2014 rs...

    Blowing fuse.

Update: Turns out it was a shorted wire before the plugs to the turn signals. Dealer found it pretty quick. I haven't gotten in there yet to see what fix he used i.e. electrical tape or whatever. Thanks for the replies. Corpssgt

    Blowing fuse.

Just in case this happened to another someday I'll update. I disconnected all connectors to the lights that the wires go to. Once I got them all disconnected put a new fuse in turned the key and pop fuse blew. Dead short somewhere. Having never taken the plastics off and I'm going out of town...

    Blowing fuse.

Really don't mean to sound anything but appreciative for help on the site. There are good dealers and mechanics and not so great. I haven't delt with the Canam dealers in the area so I don't have the trust with them yet. When I took delivery of the bike the front tires had 7psi. Seems like a bad...

    Blowing fuse.

Because she knows I can fix it. I don't have the service manual yet. I guess I taught her right. Nobody loves your bike like you do. I'm betting it's either a scuffed wire or behind the fuse block but you gotta troubleshoot to find out. It's not rocket science. I'm an electronics tech so this...

    Blowing fuse.

Wife said her bike can't go to the dealer. Anyone with a manual want to chase down the diagram for me. Plan is to unplug rear turns front running lights, license plate and rear running lights anything I'm forgetting. I'll plug one in at a time till the fuse blows. I bought five fuses and don't...

    Blowing fuse.

Found a dealer that can get to it pretty quick and since I don't have the wiring diagrams I guess I'll run it up to them. Need to get a service manual on this thing. Thanks for all the replies.

    Blowing fuse.

Good info there. Thanks for that. I really hate letting a dealer touch my bikes. I ride a Concours14 and i'm not afraid to tear into the maintenance. I've adjusted the valves and done all the other maintenance on it. It would seem with all the extra room in the spyder it would be much...

    Blowing fuse.

A smooth spyder backrest is the only mod. I went ahead and pulled it off in case it goes back to the dealer.
