• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

    Trip to Alaska and return

I thought it would be interesting to know how many Spyder riders have ventured from the lower 48 to Alaska and back on their bikes. I know that Yazz and I have done it; has anyone else?

Cheyenne to Alaska and return - Spyder critique

This will be the first of a series of critiques covering my trip to Alaska and return. Some of my views may not coincide with yours but they may lead to some constructive discussions. First and foremost at my age (74.5) and mechanical ability (minimal) was/is the Spyder reliable? The answer is...

Day Thirtyone Cheyenne to Alaska and return

We made it! Cheyenne to Alaska and return. Had an uneventful ride the last 440 miles and pulled into Cheyenne around 3:15pm. The last three days took some of the steam out of me, feeling a little tired or perhaps my age, but all in all it was an adventure of a lifetime. The Spyder made it all...

Day Thirty Cheyenne to Alaska and return

Almost home, made it to Ogden UT after a long day of riding and one stop to see some friends in Boise ID. Weather was great for riding except for the winds from Boise area to Twin Falls, winds(crosswinds) were so strong that they were moving my trailer around, almost as if it was fishtailing...

Day Twentyseven Cheyenne to Alaska and return

Still enroute to Bellingham, another day of relaxing and reading. No doubt about it when the channel is calm you can't help but enjoy the scenry and relax. Strolled around the deck a little more today and was surprised to see so many tents pitched on the observation deck, instead of the normal...

Day Twentysix Cheyenne to Alaska and return

Day Twentysix started with mechanical breakdown to one of the ferry's driveshafts which caused the Ferry to pull into the port of Petersburg for inhouse repairs, unfortunately by the time the repair was completed we missed the tide so we had to wait approximately 6 hours before we could transit...

Day Twentyfive Cheyenne to Alaska and return

Day Twentyfive started in a fog,(literally.) The fog bank was with us for almost 4 hours so the early morning sightseeing was held to a minimum. However, when we got through the fog bank we were almost to Sitka and several tour buses were waiting for us. If you ever get to Sitka make sure you...

Day Twentyfour Cheyenne to Alaska and return

Checked out of the Chilkoot River Lodge and headed for Haines downtown area for a little sightseeing and maybe a little shopping, We told the wives that if they couldn't carry it on their person they couldn't get it; needless to say I had to come up with more space in the trailer to hold the...

Day Twentythree Cheyenne to Alaska and return

Day Twentythree slept in and found out that the motel turned off breakfast at 9:00 AM, bout ready to take back my apology from yesterday, not like I needed it but wanted it. Decided that since it was Sunday we would find a local church and attend services; found a nice small church and listened...

Day Twentytwo Cheyenne to Alaska and return

Another fun day in sunny or rainy or both Alaska. Left Destruction Bay dressed for cold but before long added raingear. Road was good between Dest. Bay and Haines Junction albeit a little wet (so much for clean bikes). Gassed up in Haines Junction in the rain and headed for Haines, road was...

Day Twentyone Cheyenne to Alaska and return

Got to sleep in this morning, Yeh! Since we had such a short distance to go today thought it might be nice to make a lazy day out of it. Stopped at Buckshot Bettys for breakfast (great food) before getting underway for Destruction Bay. The ride 110 miles was a series of "whoopty dos" through the...

Day Twenty Cheyenne to Alaska and return

Left Tok after a great breakfast at Fast Eddys, introduced our wives to the giant cinnamon buns, they are still great. The road was marked with great Potholes, loose gravel and rough surfaces but we made it to Beaver Creek. Still holding to the plan of cruising with max gear of 4th, no...

Day Nineteen Cheyenne to Alaska and return

Day nineteen started out with the ladies donning longjohns and bundling up for a cold ride, which is was. We thought since it was so nice in Wasilla it would continue, but as soon as we got to Palmer the skis clouded over and the temp dropped into the 40s. It even started to rain nothing drastic...

Day Eighteen Cheyenne to Alaska and return

Another rather slow day for number eighteen; but considering that Russ and I had to meet the wives at 1:30 AM at the Alaska International Airport the fact that we did anything is acceptable. After a lot of conversation as to what we had been doing the past 17 days it was off to slumberland. Had...

Day Seventeen Cheyenne to Alaska and return

Left Wasilla after making a few stops to pick up supplies for the wives and gasing up. Arrived in downtown Anchorage around noon and decided it was too nice to sit around the hotel waiting for the wives to show up so after checking in we were on the road again. Back down the Seward highway this...

Day Sixteen Cheyenne to Alaska and return

Day Fifteen Cheyenne to Alaska and return

Woke up this morning and found out my legs didn't work very well, seems that riding that boat for 6 hours worked muscles that my body had long ago forgotten about. Well it was another day of rain today,we must be getting acclimated since all we said as we were putting on the rain gear was "at...

Day Fourteen Cheyenne to Alaska and return

Well when we got underway this morning it was cold and a hint of rain was in the air, in fact the forecast for Seward was for cloudy with showers. The ride down highway 1 was wet roads but things were going great until we passed a sign that said no gas for 85 miles; since I was already at 57...
