• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

    2014 SM-6 Clutch Issue

As we were completing our "break-in" run from PA through Ontario over to Lake Superior and back, I noticed the clutch lever didn't "feel right". At first I thought is was my imagination but then as it worsened, I realized it was not my imagination. It's not returning to it's fully disengaged...

    Unexpected Hitchhiker

And some people complain about bugs! We just got a new 2014 1330. Took a break-in run from eastern PA up thru Thousand Islands, thru Algonquin and up the Bruce Peninsula, over Lake Huron to Sault Ste Marie, up along the north shore of Lake Superior, and eventually back to PA. What a great...

More Compettition for BRP -- GGTaurus

This was referenced in the Oct '14 issue of "Road Runner" -- the GGTaurus superbike reverse trike made in Switzerland. Features 1300cc four-cylinder BMW engine with 170 HP, six-speed transmission, top speed governor-limited to 137mph. Sounds like a very expensive trike for the few. The...

    Price Reduction on Parts

I just picked up the goodies for an oil change for my 2011 RT -- filter, o-ring, and two different crush washers. Surprise! The proper wire-reinforced filter now lists for just $13.12. Less than half of what I had been paying. The o-ring and crush washers have similar reductions. I looked...

    MAP Sensor Tubing Caution

A note of caution here in replacing the rubber vacuum tubing that runs from the MAP sensor to each throttle body. Several have reported the short lengths of tubing getting brittle and cracking causing vacuum leaks and poor running. They have replaced it with either generic vacuum tubing or...

    Great Dealer in Nashville

We were cruising up the Natchez Trace Parkway near Tupelo, about 1200 miles from home in eastern PA, when the center windshield strut broke on our 2011 RT. (http://www.spyderlovers.com/forums/showthread.php?34743-WARNING-FOR-ALL-RT-OWNERS-*-You-may-want-to-check-this-on-your-machine/page6 see...

    Back from Alaska

Just completed an 8,000-mile trip from eastern PA to SE Alaska and back. Great trip, great scenery, great ride, and the RT performed flawlessly. A pleasure to ride. I went straight north and crossed into Ontario at Thousand Islands and then circled around all the Great Lakes on the north...

    Western Canada Dealers

Planning a trip around the Great Lakes, thru Sault Ste Marie, Thunder Bay, Winnipeg, Regina, Medicine Hat, Calgary, Jasper and Prince George. Any recommended dealers along the route? I've looked at the compilation of dealers on the forum but just thought I'd ask specifically to those living in...

    RT Airbox / Oil

So what exactly is involved in getting the top half of the airbox off to wipe out the oil? It looks like all the clamps around the top must be unhitched and then you can get the top off. Hopefully it's that simple. I've got 4500 mi on a 2011 RT and was surprised to see oil dripping from...

Motor Mount Clearance Spec and Shims

My backordered shims arrived this week. No snow yet so I trundled on down to the dealer and had them installed. I also got a copy of the BRP Technical Service Tip (no number – I guess it’s just a “tip” not a bulletin). I will summarize the info in the “tip” here: If the customer complains...

    Vibration -- Motor Mount Clearance

Following up on SpyderJeff's good information that he had seen some 2011 RT's with insufficient clearance between the frame and the engine "cradle" as the motor mounts seem to have settled down and let the cradle touch the frame. When I had the splash pan off to change the oil the other day, I...

    Oil Strainer

Happy Thanksgiving to all! For those of you that have removed and cleaned the oil strainer at the bottom of the tank, did you use an Oetiker clamp when re-installing or a typical screw-type clamp? The dealer did not clean at 600 mi, I changed oil again at 1800 mi and now at 4000 mi figure I...

    2011 RT Engine Vibration

I've got a significant engine vibration showing up at 4,000-4,500 rpm. Not the belt as it happens in 4th and 5th gears at exactly the same rpm. It sounds like the vibration problems on the 2010 where the bolt was hitting the frame but I thought that was fixed long before the 2011's went into...

    Rain spray on back

Thanks for the responses to my earlier rain query. Several mentioned rear-tire spray comes up and gets sucked onto the back of helmet and jacket -- assume passenger would be the worst or possibly rider if solo. I'm talking a future RT here. Has anyone tried extending the rear "mudflap" down...

    Passenger Stability

Thanks for the quick responses to my rain spray question. This one's a little tougher. Background -- 95,000 mi on GL1800. Wife loves the back seat riding. Been across the country several times and also thru Nova Scotia and Newfoundland. She's totally comfortable and relaxed back there. On...

    Rain question

I'm doing homework before purchasing an RT to replace my GL1800 with 95,000 mi on it. We do long distance touring with several cross country trips to the west coast and a couple across Newfoundland in the last few years. Wet roads, rain, etc are par for the course. My wife looked at the RT...
