• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Yuasa Battery Model Number -- a distinction without a difference?

My battery (a Yuasa YTX24HL-BS installed when I had the Spyder in for maintenance 3 years back) gave up the ghost today; no complaint there, as we're building a new home and it's been exposed to the temperature extremes more than usual without tender/maintainer. So I'm looking for another to...

    Brake Free Production Version

Just a final word from me after a month or so riding with the production version of the Brake Free helmet light. (The quick summary of what it is: a rearward facing light that attaches to your helmet and is triggered by deceleration events -- braking, of course, but also easing off the...

Thanks to this forum, with a tip of the padded elbows to Bohn

Since I came to motorcycling (a) late and (b) straight to the Spyder, I don't have years of history in terms of riding experience, best practices, favorite gear, etc., so I've absorbed a lot of insights, opinions, advice, random speculation, etc. from these forums, and I appreciate all of it...

    Brake Free Update

Picking up where another thread on the topic of additional/third brake lights left off, I received my beta test unit of the almost-ready-for-primetime Brake Free smart brake light today. Here is a picture of it mounted on my helmet, being charged up for its maiden voyage: (The lights are just...

Special combo offer on CanAmSpyderAccessories.com -- worth it?

Pierre at CanAmSpyderAccessories.com is running a special combo offer of some RT-specific items for about half the regular list price if purchased separately. The offer is: - A pair of his stainless steel Spyder front grilles (normally $169.95) - A rear trunk organizer (normally $169.95, but...

Were you ryding on SH 71 between Bastrop and Austin Saturday evening?

Took advantage of possibly the best weather ever for Spydering this weekend and did a run from Austin to Smithville on Saturday afternoon (1/5) via some as-yet-unexplored back roads before shooting back to Austin on SH 71, and caught up with a pair of riders at one of the (too) many lights...

    "Rides" tally in the profile?

Apologies if this has already been asked and answered, but searching on "Rides" on a motorcycle website is like Googling for someone named "Smith." There's a "Rides: 0" in the "poster" summary for each post, and I was wondering what that was about? It's a clickable link, but to goes to a page...

In case there was any doubt... one more BajaRon testimonial

Had the SpyderPops team install the BajaRon Anti-Sway Bar on my 2017 RT this weekend, and like so many others, only wish I'd done it earlier. Except I don't, really. As a total novice to motorcycling, I needed the ryding time to get to a place where I could really feel the difference. The many...

Closeout Sena 20s at Cycle Gear

Just got the latest email from Cycle Gear and noticed they have at least one Sena 20s unit available in their clearance section for $199.99. I expect Motorcycle Dave could have beat that price when he had them in stock, but they're getting hard to find new, so just in case...

    Motonation Cappra Riding Pants Review

Asked a question a couple weeks back about Motonation's new Cappra riding pants and wound up buying a pair to check them out. (See http://www.spyderlovers.com/forums/showthread.php?114029-Anyone-have-experience-(good-or-bad)-with-Motonation-gear if interested.) I promised a review and here...

Rider Magazine likes the Yamaha Niken

Just received the latest issue yesterday, so only had time to skim the review, but they were very complimentary of it from a performance and handling standpoint. Here's the review online: 2019 Yamaha Niken - First Ride Review Expected retail price is around $16K.

Anyone have experience (good or bad) with Motonation gear?

They've got a new set of riding pants at a pretty good price point that look like they might work in the heat. Cappra Vented Textile Pant I'm thinking I might give them a try (only offered in black, sigh), but wondered if anyone had evaluated/tried any of their other gear and had any general...

A Spyder-Inspired Meditation on Fathers and Sons

Yesterday was a good day. It's been a busy time with some challenges at work and at home; parents who need some extra attention, and grown children who... still need some extra attention. A former boss remarked on the latter phenomenon, saying, "The problems don't go away. They just get harder...

The phone... has left the automobile...

If you're in the market for a smartphone case, I can now give you an unqualified recommendation for the Spigen Tough Armor line (not that anyone was waiting on pins and needles for such a recommendation). To explain... While working on the Spyder the other night, I took my iPhone out of my...

    Defeated by the steering bolts

Well, one of them, to be specific. I'm pulling them out to install the Lamonster RAM mount (the two-bolt version) on my RT; took a lot of sweat, but I got one of 'em out. The other one is resisting my charms, and I'm fearful I'm getting close to fouling up the hex head the way I'm flailing. I...

    Hot weather overpants

Searching the archives, it looks like it's been about 3 years since the most recent major "what do you wear in the summer?" thread, and I wanted to get more specific advice, if possible. I'm in central Texas, so it's about to get super warm for the next five months, and not usually a dry heat...

Sena 20s powering off while intercom engaged

I've been happy with my Sena 20s to this point when going it alone -- basically, I'm using it for music, navigation and for occasional phone calling. ("Yep, I'm calling you from my helmet!") My wife and I went out on a ride together this last weekend, so we had our first chance to use the...

FOBO Users: What low/high range do you use?

Just installed the FOBO Bike for Trike set on my Spyder, and am happy to have a cleaner, easier end to The Great Quest to Check the Rear Tire Pressure. I set up my target pressures at the recommended levels, and only gave it +/- 2 psi for the low and high alarm settings. I live in Texas, so...

How long can I leave my Spyder in the garage without starting it up/taking it out?

Title says it all, but some context: - Going on a long (non-ryding) trip, our Spyder will be unused for about 25 days - Spyder will be staying home in our building's parking garage -- it's private, covered and safe, but no electricity drop to our parking spots, unfortunately, so... - No battery...
