• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Does UHaul rent a trailer to tow a Spyder?

Does UHaul rent a trailer that can be used to load and tow a Spyder a couple hundred miles? Doesn't matter it is in open or enclosed.

    Radiator fans not coming on

After several years of trouble free operation, I have my second issue in two weeks. I noticed my temp gauge spiking while stuck in traffic idling today. Check engine came on seconds later, along with a limp mode warning. Shut it off till traffic started moving. Once rolling, the temp gauge...

998cc Misfire on 2015 STS - need new plug wires? Ideas?

Hi everyone, I have noticed an occasional misfire on my '15 STS SM5, just shy of 13k miles. Typically, it happens after decelerating, then re-applying throttle, such as slowing down for a turn, then accelerating up to speed. Today, it did it once while downshifting for a turn. It will...

Orange fluid on garage floor - coolant?

I was moving stuff around in the garage today, including the Spyder. Underneath I found orange fluid, enough to run towards the garage floor drain. I would guess about one cup. I am assuming this is coolant, though it doesn't appear to have an odor. What else could it be? If it is coolant, I...

    Self-adjusting belt?

I recently re-installed my rear wheel after getting a new tire mounted. I noticed that the belt was pretty close to the sprocket flange but not touching it (less than 1mm). I had a plan to loosen to axle and reposition the belt on the center of the sprocket this weekend. I took a 100 mile ride...

    Wheel/tire re-installation ... follow up questions

I removed the rear wheel from my '15 ST-S, had a new tire mounted, and re-installed everything over the weekend. Now that I am done, I have some questions I am hoping someone "in the know" can answer: 1. I cannot get a 36 mm socket / torque wrench on the axle nut - not enough space even when...

Test ride reflection: STS SM5 rider on an '18 RTL SE6

Some context: I bought my first Spyder used last spring, a 2015 ST-S with a twin/5 speed manual w/hand clutch. I had never ridden a Spyder before purchasing mine. I have ridden sleds for 20 years, and two-wheel motorcycles for 10 years. Today was the first time on a SE-equipped Spyder, first...

2018+ audio system - better sound than previous generation?

Just wondering if the 2018+ BRP audio system with four speakers in the fairing has better sound quality than the 2010-17 models with two front speakers only...?

Dilemma that is not really a dilemma

So, I have a dilemma ... not a real one, but worth posting about on SL, with the valuable insight available here. I currently have a 2015 STS SM5 with the twin, and a 2016 Wing with ABS, integrated navigation/XM. Next year, I would like to shake up the lineup a bit. This is influenced by my...

    V-twin semi-auto vs. triple semi-auto

I have a V-twin STS with the manual. Next year, I will be selling it and replacing it with an RT with a semi-auto, so I can ride with my wife. The plan is to get a 2014+ with a triple and SE6. However... ...there is a nice 2013 RTL twin with 7000 miles on it, with the SE5 tranny available...

First ride of year and a couple of thoughts on the future

150 miles on the STS SM5 today. Last ride was December 11. Fired right up after coming off the tender last week. Aired up the tires, and off I went. Had the tunes playing through my Cardo and had no planned destination. Turned when I felt like it, kept going straight if that was I wanted...

12v plug installation on '15 STS?

Hi there. I have a BRP 12v receptacle, given to me uninstalled by the previous owner. There is a plug on the back side of the frunk, looks like plug-n-play for this accessory. The receptacle has a threaded shank. How do I install this?

    2020+ vs 2019 and older...

So, I will eventually be replacing my 2015 STS (with the charismatic V-twin, which will be missed) with a used RT 1330 SE6 of some sort. I sat on both at a dealer (a 19 and 20) and the 19 fits me better. It is unusual for me to sit on a bike and have it feel like they built it for me. When I...

2019 vs 2020 RT handlebar position

I took my ST-S to the dealer today for the end of year service. While there, I sat on an 2019 RT and a 2020 RT. I notice that the 2020 has more space for rider and rider/passenger (my wife boarded with me). However, I like the feel of the handlebars on the 2019 more. Those bars are...

Question about extent of floorboard adjustability on T, L models

How far back can the floorboards be adjusted on these models? I do not like my legs stretched way out in front - I prefer a slightly forward position, perhaps 100-110 degrees.

For those who have only owned the 1330 ...

First, I have never ridden a Spyder with the 1330. I am willing to bet it is the better overall engine for the way most people ride these machines (and the direction that most new models have drifted towards recently). I will tell you though - the 998 V-twin can be a blast to ride when it's...

    Windshield question

I have a '15 STS SM5. I keep the stock adjustable windshield in the lowest setting, +1 notch up (thanks to the advice on this forum!). I enjoy the full air this gives me, and uncluttered view of the road in front of me, and would like to keep the windshield height about the same. However, I...

998cc vs 1330cc fuel mileage question

I have been averaging 38 mpg on my SM5 998 V-twin. For those that have owned the manual clutch/5-speed/998 combo, and now own a 1330 semi-auto/6-speed, should one except the same, more or fewer miles per gallon?
