• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

    Vredestein 175/55R15 Fit.

I had the bike up on the jack and stands installing the new front fender progressive turn signals. I remember a lot of discussion about the fit of the Vredestein 175/55R15 tire in the front fender as to clearance. So I looked and to my surprise I saw this; Note this is at the rear of the left...

    AAA- Upcoming less coverage.

It may be semantics, but I received a flyer in the mail from AAA, stating that they will pay $500 per allowable motorcycle service call (Plus RV and Premier Coverage), up to $1000 per household per year. More verbiage stating "Members will be responsible for all costs above" (parsed) caused my...

New Battery Died and sat on a 2020 RTL

Yuasa made in USA battery, 10 months old. Died very suddenly. Bad cell. Took it out and brought it to the dealer to test and replace, and of course they didn't have a replacement in stock, but at least confirmed it was bad. Typical. They could have told me that they didn't have one before I...

    My Dzus Install

So, I've read about the folks who have lost the $270 side panel (including the nameplate), but I always installed mine with Windex and usually pull the rubber grommets out when removing. Until the other day. Got home and one was hanging by a thread, 2 of the 3 pins had pulled out (not...

LED Rear Lights- Brake and Turn

I was being followed by someone who is motorcycle aware, and the first thing they said when we stopped was "can you put brighter bulbs in the turn signals"? So, for those of you that have went through this phase of farkling, I pose a question, in two parts. Spyder is a 2018 RTL. Which...

RT Limited OEM Rear Shock- Making it Adjustable.

Decided I wanted my rear shock to be adjustable. Not being a suspension guru, I took the simple route. Disclaimer; if you use this procedure you may have negative consequences up to and including death. My goal was to make my bike non-dependent on the air compressor system for 1 up riding...

2018 RTL Front Spring Rate Question

I've read everything Spacetiger has written, seems like he was the only one who ever actually tested springs. Also read some very early Lamontster stuff about front spring rates, but that was on the earlier stuff. Was wondering what the OEM spring rate actually is for new model RTL's? I got...

Brake Failure Part II. Frustrated doesn't even begin to come close.

So I took a ride for the first time in about a month. Love bugs have been horrendous this year, not to mention the heat. Over 100°F for a while now. So the bike hummed along perfectly to my destination. Parked it, came back 30 minutes later. Brake failure. Unlike last time it left codes...

    Automatic Air System Parameters

I know I'm doing it wrong, but while doing some mad scientist investigating I found out some things about the automatic air system that I'd like some feedback on to see if I got it right. First, to be operational, the bike needs to be running, in gear, with the parking brake off. Is this...

Shoutout to nslowmotion- Brake Pedal Fixed

Giving a shout out to Mr. nslowmotion. I just recently fabricated a foot brake upgrade with riser. I used the bike brake pedal that everyone uses, but didn't cut it off quite as much as others have done. I also made a riser out of 1.25" square aluminum solid bar. I come from the old school...

My visit to SpyderPops in Pearcy Arkansas

So I rode over to the SpyderPops shop in Pearcy Arkansas to get some work done. It was an 857 mile round trip with a lot of rain. My reason for going was to get a ROLO laser alignment and Baja Ron swaybar. First off, I must warn the unsuspecting about Mr. Harvey's shop! Don't look too much...

    Sonic Tension Question.

All, Just got my machine (2018 RTL) out of warranty limbo, checked it over before riding home and wouldn't you know it, the belt is too tight and vibrating. Even with the dampener on the belt. Looking through the paperwork on the 3000 mile service, the tech acknowledged everything I asked...

2018 RTL OEM Rear Spring Rate Question

I can't afford all those outstanding aftermarket shocks, and being somewhat satisfied with the ride of the RTL, I only want to upgrade the spring rate on the rear. Does anyone have the OEM spring Specs? I've read some really technical suspension posts on here, but haven't found what I'm...

For those of you wondering (Non scientific measurements); Tri-Axis bars adjust Forward and Rearward , plus higher and lower, and any combination of the two. The Maximum and Minimum width remains constant for any height setting. Max Width (Forward) is 33.5" and Min Width (Rearward) is 29.5"...

    Oetiker Clamps

Has anyone done a replacement project on all the Oetiker clamps holding the cooling system together? There seem to be 3 different part numbers, with a total of 16 clamps. I'm wondering what size worm gear clamp is needed for each part number, might look to do this when I clean the radiators.

    What's up with these 2018 RTL's

So I don't want to whine too loudly about this, but there seems to be some problems with the 2018 run of RTL's. I just about have mine whipped into submission for the long haul, just lacking the sway bar, rear brake light addition, and laser alignment. Now, the parking brakes have started...

Small Tutorial on Packing Wheel Bearings

Disclaimer- Don't do this, it may cause the wheels to fall off! So you’ve procured some Made In XXXX (Preferred Country of Choice) bearings off of the InterWebs! Did you know that the bearing has a specified shelf life as denoted by the manufacturer? All bearings do. The oil slowly seeps out...
