• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

    Another battery tender question

I was reading the recent battery tender threads, and I decided to try the 12V adaptor mentioned by several people. It arrived today, and I tried hooking it up, but without success. The adaptor is by Deltran, and I also have a 25-foot extension cord for the tender, also by Deltran (it fits...

    Strange startup behavior

Every once in awhile, after I hit the mode button as usual and then start my 2012 RTS SE5, the screen will flash and go back to the beginning, i.e., it tells me to press the mode button. The engine stays on, and after I hit the mode button again, it goes to the regular screen and everything...

    Gravel

I have a proactive question. I've read the cautions about riding on gravel and especially on the gravel-asphalt mixture that they put on roads that is loose to start with and is supposed to be tamped down by traffic over time (I can't remember the correct term for it). That's the stuff that's...

    "Distracted" drivers

After reading about the unfortunate recent accident and others, I've decided to ask a question that's been bothering me. When these so-called "distracted" drivers cause an "accident" that hurts or even kills a motorcycle rider and they say they simply "didn't see" the motorcycle, do they get...

    Another shifting/rpms question

I've had my RTS SE5 for 2.5 months now, and I've gotten comfortable with the high rpms, etc. I manage to keep it above 5,000 at regular speeds, in either 3rd or 4th gear, depending on the speed, and I stay in 1st gear inside my gated community, where the speed limit is an annoying 25 mph. My...

    Topping off the oil

Two newbie questions. (i) When the oil on the dipstick is approaching the lower "fill" line, how much oil needs to be added to get it back to the top line, approximately? The manual just says to add "a small amount" of oil and run it through the drive, idle, test cycle again (and again) until...

    Parking lot safety

After reading the current thread "Parking Lot Maneuvers" and all the threads/posts about hostility from some bike riders, as a newbie, I was wondering if things like this happen often. Vandalism and nastiness, I mean, just because we dare to be different. Personally, just being a generally...

    Tilt!

:duh:OK, here's another off-the-wall, probably totally dumb newbie question. I've started riding some of the back roads here in central VA, and I noticed something I never noticed in my car: they TILT! I'm not talking camber (if that's the right term; higher in the middle for drainage), but...

    Spydercodes question

Newbie question. I downloaded the Spydercodes app (thanks; looks really great:2thumbs:), and I'm trying to use the fuel part of it. I made a couple of mistakes entering data the first time:opps:, and now I have two wrong entries that are screwing up the calculation of mpg. Is there any way to...

    Air compressors/tire inflators

I like to put air in my tires at home, and I just tried it for the first time on my "new" 2012 RTS. No problem with the Spyder, but i found that my old combo jump starter/inflator doesn't do well with it. I only needed about 2 psi, and the gauge isn't clear enough to show such a small amount...

    First highway ride; still grinning

I went for a short (unfortunately) ride at highway speed for the first time just now, and all I can say is  WOW! This wasn't the freeway, just a regular road, but WOW! I know I'm preaching to the choir here, but it was so much more enjoyable than riding at that speed on my little Harley...

ANOTHER noob plus some dumb questions

I just bought a 2012 RTS SE5, and I'm getting used to her. Love her so far. I discovered this site, and I'm glad I did. Read the Dos and Don'ts and found out I was shifting WAY too early based on cars and my rather limited 2-wheel experience. I'm trying to get used to the high RPMs, but it'll...
