• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

A Springtime weekend ride in the South

My destination? Southeast from North Central Alabama, to include southern Georgia and North Florida. (The day prior, I'd lunched at The Funky Goat in Dadeville Alabama, my second visit with that quaint little diner on the town square.) Back to the ride: After removing the pollen blanket from...

    Little River Canyon Ride

I went over to N. Georgia to ride and wound up in Alabama... go figure! The Little River Canyon National Preserve in NE Alabama is the tail of the Appalachian Mountains, running along the top of Lookout Mountain near Ft Payne AL. Some say it's the nation's longest river running on top of a...

    Today's ride - Columbia, Alabama

A short ride today to meet a friend for coffee in Columbiana, Alabama (a hoot and a holler south of Birmingham). These twin spires in the morning sun caught my eye as I rode along Main Street... formally known as "Silk Stocking Road".

Dash went black & I couldn't shift - blown fuse! No idea why...

Yesterday, I suited up and went out for a ride. Key "on", Spyder fired right up...but when I tried to put it into reverse, the dash went black and the left hand switch cluster went dead. Having replaced the left hand switch cluster a few months ago, my worst fear was that it had crapped out...

Front seat support piston failed again - I made a replacement rod!

The front seat support piston on my 2020 Spyder RT has failed for the second time. With 28,000 miles on it, I'm pretty bummed at the pitiful performance of the stock support piston AND the McMaster-Carr replacement piston. With no assurance that another piston will perform any longer, I made...

A shout out to Wrap my Spyder

My 2020 RT base was bought with 4,000 miles on it, and I love the Petrol Blue color. But, with black wheels and black all over the trike, the base model just looked dark and dirty to my eye, and I wanted more pop without getting gaudy. Wrap my Spyder had just what I was looking for and even...

I've made an Alignment tool for installing the rear wheel assembly!

When replacing the rear tire, getting the wheel assembly to line up with both swing arms, the brake caliper bracket is a bit of a chore, especially if only 1 person is doing it. As you know, the sprocket and wheel both have bearings/seals that must not be damaged while getting the axle bolt...

Rear caliper piston won't retract - any hints/help?

From old threads, it seems that this is a known issue: BaJaRon posted in 2022 the following: "A more common problem than would be expected. Once the piston detaches from the threads, it's a bear to get it to re-engage. As you have discovered. You have to apply a good deal of pressure to...

Anybody go for a Ride Today? Post about your ride (with pics?)

A good ride on a good day is medicine for the soul! There are two photos showing a single-track road where an old railroad bed once was. It runs along the Warrior River near Tuscaloosa AL, and trains would haul coal from the nearby mines to barges on the river. The other photo is one of many...

A 4,000 mile Spyder ride tale in segments

With a plan to ride “somewhere west of Wall Street”, My Spyder protested being loaded upon a trailer for the first and last legs of a 4,000+ ride. It was a hot summer day when I headed to Springfield MO to meet up with my buddy Joe. Since I try not to do more than 300 miles a day riding, I...

    Pre-Easter Ride today

On this beautiful day, I rode the Spyder on a 100 mile loop, stopping at Local Joe's BBQ & Trading Post in Rainbow City AL for a homemade Granny's Apple Pie & coffee. Everything is now better. Happy Easter everyone.

When Dogwoods bloom.... their pollen covers everything, including my Spyder!!

When Dogwoods bloom in the South several things can be done as part of the Springtime ritual: We can bring out the garden hose(es), and remove the foam covers from the outdoor faucets; It's time to get serious about the number of dangerous decking boards that need replacing; It's time to post...

    Confessions on tour planning

In July 2023 I planned a "bucket-list" ride out west with my friend from Missouri, and in retrospect I did us both a disservice by planning to visit too many places. We totaled 5,000+ miles thru 10 states in 19 days (not bragging, but proving my point of planning too much distance and too little...

    Vredestein Quatrac 5 news

FYI....Vredestein's reply to my inquiry trying to find a Quatrac 5 rear tire for my 2020 Spyder RT (205/60/R15): Thank you John for your email. We no longer make the Quatrac 5 in that size. It has moved over to the Quatrac tire. My current rear tire has a tiny hole which I've plugged, so am...

Almost-winter looks like this in Alabama

With Thanksgiving behind us and Christmas season looming, the temps suddenly dropped from the 70's to the high 20's in Alabama, presenting these scenes at The Treehouse (Outside vs inside)....both with their own beauty..........I wish everyone wellness and looking forward to each day with a grin...
