• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

    Adios Amigos

The lure of returning to 2 wheels overcame me and I have traded in the RS for an HD Softail Slim. I truly wish I had the capital and garage space to keep both as the Spyder will be missed. My Spyder was a joy to own and kept me riding when medical problems had made 2 wheels unsafe. My RS was one...

Calling all spyderlovers: to Spyder?, or not to Spyder?: that is the question

I would agree with this but would add that if I had a dealer I trusted, I'd buy a 2013, if I didn't I'd wait for a 2014. There are far more people with trouble free 13's, they're just quiet, but the dealer's role is critically important particularly with the 13's. It sounds like you were...

CALIFORNIA DEALERSHIP GOES ABOVE & BEYOND

Kudos to you Ken, great to hear a great dealer story!

    Spyder Pricing and possible competiton

If it happens (big if), I think it will affect pricing not on the RS but on the RS-S and particularly on the ST and RT's. Probably not the base prices but on option packages, as these are usually big profit items.

Extended Warranty AFTER your original one has lapsed

I agree, I'd obviously check with the site sponsor to be sure, but with an '08 this seems an apples to oranges comparison.

    Dealer Rating

Wow, I figured with the dealers' reputations, it was the receptionist's hair color.

    Cloaking device in working order

Popular right now? As I recall every biker in "The Wild Ones" wore black and that's from 1953. I think black has always been popular because it looks cool and hides dirt and stains. I still wear black, but with hi-vis stripes. I think the contrast between the black and the stripes may also help...

    Cloaking device in working order

I had a friend of my daughter's, kid was 19 years old and a new rider. He had taken the MSF class and his uncle was following him after he picked up the used bike he had just bought. He had on a new full faced helmet, riding jacket with armor, gloves, jeans, and riding boots. He was doing 40-45...

    Cloaking device in working order

Must be, I had 4 vehicles turn left in front of me in less than 10 miles. One of which turned so close in front of me she had to turn onto the left side of the street, because had she come past the median I would have definitely hit her. Fortunately I always ride defensively and usually (at...

Baja Ron's First Gear Rain Gear

I concur, I've purchased his swaybar, oil change kits, and Amsoil, always good prices, great service, and you deal with the man himself!

    Bajaron Sway bar on RSS

I have a 2012 RS, but added the Fox shocks so it is functionally identical to the RS-S. I found the difference with the sway bar dramatic. I go much quicker through curves (instinctively now) and feel more planted when passing other traffic and anytime at freeway speed. I added the shocks first...

    exhausted

All of the replies on this thread are valid, but this one takes the cake. This is complete and accurate. I have nothing to add, other than follow this advice to the letter. Good job ex winger!

    My dilemma!

Congratulations, great looking bike. I for one would greatly appreciate if you did post your evaluations and comparisons. I am very curious how the handling compares with the Spyder. It seems that 2 wheels in the front would be a huge handling advantage and that was one of the big selling points...

    Dealer Reputatiion

Average price seems to be just under $300 (and as it turns out mine was average) so yours was a little high but not ridiculous. If your setup was good and you're happy with everything post the 600 miler, you may want to go ahead and pay a little more. Trust me there are plenty of folks on this...

    Shoes

Dr. Martins short engineers with ankle supports. Super comfortable for riding and walking and they last forever. I got in the habit of wearing these on 2 wheelers, and while I don't see the necessity on a Spyder, they're so comfortable I just keep wearing them.

How to avoid the Troll tag

This advice comes from experience, not from my Spyder, but from owning a 2002 Indian Chief. That bike had issues that would make most of the Spyder complaints seem trivial (5 transmissions in less than a year as one example), and I reacted like many of those here. To top it off I had only bought...

    half helmets

Excellent point, in my haste to defend the choice of a half helmet in general, I neglected to address the man's question (oops). I have a couple of half helmets and one that stands out for comfort, unfortunately, I have to wait until I get home to post the recommendation as I can't remember the...

    half helmets

Last I looked my half helmet was DOT certified, good in all 50 states, Puerto Rico, American Samoa, and the US Virgin Islands. If a half helmet sucks because it only covers 4% of your body rather than the 8% covered by a full face, does that mean the other 92% of your body is superfluous? I only...

    Joke

Great old joke, my Dad told me that joke 45 years ago and he said it was an old joke then. Probably goes back to WWII (since it's always a German), but if you haven't heard it, it's still new to you!
