• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

    HowTo: Plastic Restoration Products

Got some good answers already but I will add one thing. This is the type of company that controls the pricing to their suppliers. Long/short is that it doesn't matter where you buy it from as it will be the same price and approximate shipping time. Available from all the usual online retailers...

    HowTo: Plastic Restoration Products

Hello everyone! I just wanted to share my experience with plastic restoration. My hope is to save someone some money on an inferior product when real solutions are available. Lets start with exterior black plastic as it is one of the easier ones... Meguiar's Ultimate Black, Back to Black...

    to change oil or not?

I just want to add some counterpoints for anyone considering a similar situation. As mentioned above there are possible pitfalls to leaving oil that has been used even once to sit for a long period of time. Also being that the bike is on it's break in oil there ARE metal shavings in that oil...

    Sad day.

Well that part is good. Silver lining. My comment was of the mindset of someone who is a competent and well equipped mechanic who is used to working on small engines could perform the swap for you. This is not the type of thing you would have to be familiar with a Spyder to be able to complete...

    Sad day.

A frame can certainly be replaced! There are some possible pitfalls that potentially have not been mentioned... Wiring Harness would be a large concern for me. When you transfer this component between frames it may suffer some damage even if everything is done right due to work-hardened wires...

    Sad day.

Wonder what the bike's fate is from here... insurance auction? Can you buy the bike from the insurance company? Would come get it and give the parts a great home at the right price. Hopefully it doesn't end up in the crusher. Got to be a lot of usable stuff there... sorry for your loss

2008 Spyder GS (RS) | Fire Damage

... and the biggest blessing of a box I have opened in recent past! Thank you again for the amazing parts at a reasonable price! Receiving the dash and BUDS system was an "over-the-hump" moment on this project for me. Because I have no money earmarked for this at the moment... I...

2008 Spyder GS (RS) | Fire Damage

Spyderfolks! First new (to me) part for this machine has arrived. Main wiring harness purchased from eBay for an amazingly reasonable $182 USD shipped. This may have been one of the only parts on eBay (at the time) with any competition. There were two other listings when I bought this. This...

Agree. Make sure it is good and dry then test ride. Seen this happen with other twin engines if someone leaves a spark plug wire off. This likely isn't that or it wouldn't run lol

Sounds like gas got into that pipe from somewhere while you were taking it apart and it is/was burning off. Is there a place where gas could have dripped down and accumulated? Air compressor and spray nozzle might help find. Fuel injected so I doubt it came through your engine unless you poured...

2008 Spyder GS (RS) | Fire Damage

Hey Spyder folks, Looking at engine parts and hoping for a more reasonably priced source. CheapCycleParts (CCP) is currently where I will be buying my OEM stuff. Need (at minimum) a gasket set (420685480 - $250) and piston ring set x2 (420295858 - $67)($134) The gasket set will include...

2008 Spyder GS (RS) | Fire Damage

Just wanted to share my thoughts with you Spyder folks... Dreaming of a time in the future when cosmetic changes are a focus I wanted a theme for the bike. Had tossed around ideas of a fire spyder or something along that line but spider graphics on these machines has been done to say it...

2008 Spyder GS (RS) | Fire Damage

I would love to make a Goldwing trike. They are arguably the best motorcycle ever made and almost certainly from a cost to options perspective. I can buy used Goldwing non-running for $1000 and get it back to running shape. They are a super cheap option now that so many are out there. Not the...

2008 Spyder GS (RS) | Fire Damage

That's bad as asking a lady her weight or her age! I'm kidding ya! I basically did take if off them as I only gave $500 at the end of the day. The PO claimed he was ready to junk it as they had been told it would be too much to fix. Allegedly, no insurance or claims of any kind were made on...

2008 Spyder GS (RS) | Fire Damage

Just a quick update Spyder folks... Here are the pistons after treatment. As you can see, they came pretty clean and are ready for the machine shop. A summary of the process is... physical cleaning, ultrasonic bath, LT Naval Jelly, ultrasonic rinse, dip in parts washer and a final treatment...

Thank you for the response! To clarify... the bike is no longer being parted out and is not currently for sale. Thanks to @ivanlee and others I will have the tools and knowledge needed to bring her back to life. Both myself and my wife are interested in riding it and although it will be a...

Seeing this is enough to bring a tear to your eye. If you are unsure why or what you are looking at... This is a photo showing the bottom end of the engine from the top down. With pistons removed I was able to see down into the crankcase and verify the great condition. Note the oil in the...

2008 Spyder GS (RS) | Fire Damage

The factory cross-hatching usually gets worn away within a certain number of miles. A light hone would be with the intention of removing only what is on the very surface and creates new hatch marks but doesn't really remove the old ones. A little of both to answer your original question. Seeing...
