• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

    Engine Stop Switch -- Really?

Here's an interesting twist (regarding shutdown and restart) on my F3-S (se): Gave up setting the parking brake @ home. Found it inconvenient having to go through a pre-start ritual just to move it around in the garage. Instead, I just shut it off in neutral without setting brake (via key &...

Stabil Blue & Marvel Mistery Oil: Don't laugh!

Can't answer you with any precision. I've been "eye-balling" my "go-kart cocktail" for nearly a decade. Best guess maybe 4 oz. MMO and maybe 2 oz. of the StaBil (blue) to 6 gal. fuel. Real hot days I'm sure I go a little on the heavy side with the Marvel. (I know Sta-Bil specifies less than...

Stabil Blue & Marvel Mistery Oil: Don't laugh!

Just so everyone is on the same page here: When using Marvel Mystery Oil, I'm referring to using it as a fuel additive, not oil additive.

Stabil Blue & Marvel Mistery Oil: Don't laugh!

The past 15 years, I've learned firsthand that small engines (like 6.5 hp. Honda engines) that are worked HARD all summer long in extreme heat etc. love a concoction of Marvel Mistery Oil & Stabil Blue (marine.) 30 years ago, my grandfather (engineer) swore by the Marvel Mystery oil additive in...

    1330 oil change interval

I believe that (given the price of these machines) it's foolish to go even 5,000 miles between oil changes regardless of what oil you use. Even without oil degradation, consider contaminants etc. On that note, I'll be changing my oil at least once yearly regardless of mileage. (I have a very...

    Engine Stop Switch -- Really?

"KILL SWITCHES" are generally considered "emergency KILL switches." And yes they are there for a reason. But not to shut off your machine on a regular basis. That's what the key is for. (IMO) Maybe I'm wrong here: But if you just hit the kill switch, the "system" is still draining the...

    Another newbie.

Possibly showing my age lol. But my previous "ride" was a GSXR-1100. (Well, also a GSXR-750/demo. and on snow a ZR600-EFI snowmobile.) That being said: Without a turbo, I'm 99.8% content on my F3-S D500 (SE)! Loads of torque, and (stock) mine handles like she's on rails. <grin>

    Another newbie.

RE: Turbo's Can't imagine many folks would actually be happy owning turbo versions even if BRP offered one. History repeats itself: Turbos were never very popular in the sport bike arena. You almost couldn't give them away (from what I remember), and for good reason IMO: Power was "peaky"...

Downshifting questions .... good or bad practices??

Engine braking is the result of vacuum, the opposite of building pressure from explosions (accelerating) at high rpm's. I'm no "rocket scientist" (or mechanic) but the way my deductive/logical mind envisions engine braking is: You're not generating heat or positive pressure, but your still...

    Smoothspyder F3 belt tensioner

This tensioner is on the return side of belt, but the BRP and Doc's are on the pull side, correct? BRP's "fix" suggests it's the tension side causing the vibration. (which contradicts Smoothspyder approach) Thinking I'll just "drive hard" around town and keep it under 65 for now! (My "3 week...

    Smoothspyder F3 belt tensioner

I've read somewhere on this forum that the "noticeable vibration window" is related to belt tension. ~ Does more belt tension increase OR decrease the speed (of vehicle) at which the vibration becomes noticeable? At first I thought it was "road surface" prior to reading about the belt...

    Smoothspyder F3 belt tensioner

Would like to know the benefits/requirement of this belt dampener/vibration suppressor (having to cut the plastic) vs. the other one(s) where no cuts are necessary on the F3 chassis... (I know the OEM one doesn't last.)

    Smoothspyder F3 belt tensioner

Yes, at least that's what I saw on the install video. Not a big deal and only on the F3 chassis.

    Smoothspyder F3 belt tensioner

Keep in mind that on an F3, one of the tensioners does require cutting some plastic.

    F3 SE6 and "Target" RPM's?

Because its a triple and "feels smooth", it probably doesn't appear to ever be lugging. On the other hand, I was always led to believe that a triple cyl. engine technically can't be truly balanced due to it's configuration. Funny how "perceptions change" over time. In the snowmobile industry...

    F3 SE6 and "Target" RPM's?

Engine doesn't even begin to produce power until higher RPM's, so why limit up-shifts @ 3k? It hasn't even hit it's "power-band!" (One of the most mis-used powersports phrases lol.) But seriously: Last thing you want to do (IMO) is make an engine LUG, right? 60%, maybe 65% of red-line is...

All the upgrades I've done to my F3-S! (Long post)

Nice list. Not wanting a tank bag or saddles..... I added this trunk bag atop the back seat of my F3-S D500. Perfect fit & look (IMO), as if it were made exclusively for the machine & seat! Reworked how it attached using only 1/2 the straps w/out the bulky strap protectors (and all connector...

    Good Price on 2017 F3-S?

In that scenario, I couldn't/wouldn't have justified spending thousands more either. (Price discrepancies like you described do happen, and many times it's the result of factory/reps cutting special deals on excess inventory being "relocated.") I have no idea if Can-Am does this with carryover...
