• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

    2021 RT rear wheel removal.

I pulled (literally pulled!) mine off when the rear tire was changed. There are just snap together fasteners holding it on. Take a quick picture, inside and out, so you know if you got it back in the right place.

    Front Suspension Brain Teaser

Isn't that just a different spin on the 'bump steer' question? How do the wheels point differently as the suspension moves through it's travel?

Front sprocket - trying to remove the bolt, any ideas?

If the sprocket isn't turning but the bolt and shaft are, you can try putting the bike in gear to hold the shaft. Be cautious about how much force you put on the bolt, since it will be applied to the transmission at the same time. It should hold well enough to 'break' the loctite on the...

    Q5 tire pressure question

So, when it's 90° during the pressure check, what pressure do you recommend? The 16psi (that you recommend  and I use) would appear to be too low??? I don't think Ralph Nader is watching anymore...

    Q5 tire pressure question

I've looked for inflation charts for the 165/60R15 tires and can only find pressures down to 26 psi @ 68°f for loads much heavier than ours. With 1/2 tank of fuel and me on board there's 750# on the front axle, so 375# for each tire. That's less than half the 26psi recommended load. I assume...

Load testing a battery - how?

Such a nice, concise writeup that I clipped it out and added it to my Spyder maintenance note file. Here are the readings from my 2020RT that I took a while back, just in case there's trouble down the road: Battery Voltage measurements: Off, no key in ignition 12.82v Off, ken in ignition...

    Reliability

2020RT with 10,000 since September 2020. One trip back to the dealer for failed fuel sending unit -- not a game stopper at all. Like any machine (especially with computers involved), there are a few wrinkles and annoyances.

Check belt tension sonic meter method?

Specification (wheel off the ground) range is 202 – 270, so you are in the mid-range. If that measurement is on the ground, it's probably about 20# higher than off the ground, so ~223#. Mine seems to work best at 235# on the ground, 210# wheel off the ground. Different bikes and different...

Check belt tension sonic meter method?

    .22304 x frequency squared = force in pounds So, 33 X 33 = 1089 (frequency squared) 1089 X .22304 = 242.89#

What mirror vibration fix works the best?

When I installed mine, there was a plastic 'pin' on the back of the part that gets bolted with the new bolts. I had to snip it off to get that plate to lie flat. That MAY be related to your problem.

Check belt tension sonic meter method?

Check the frequency response before you go too far. It needs to work down around 30Hz. My Motorola Android would only go down to about 60Hz. I tested with a tuba...

Check belt tension sonic meter method?

I 'tested' my Android phone and it is insensitive to sounds below about 60 Hz, so doesn't hear in the range required to measure belt tension. That 2x (first harmonic) pops up since it is in the audio range of the phone. I use a Snark musical instrument tuner that 'hears' or 'feels' the belt...

    Windshield damage ??

I just went out and cleaned one of my retired/spare windscreens with 50% isopropyl with no deleterious effects whatsoever. What do you suggest to remove chemical films? Very few things are milder then alcohol. Edit: After some research, I found an industry flyer that included isopropyl...

    Windshield damage ??

Light refracting through or reflecting off of thin film coatings can produce a spectrum of light, just like a rainbow. I'm sure you've seen a similar effect with sunlight reflecting off of a puddle with an oil slick. Commonly seen after rain on the road. Get some plexi-glass restorer and...

Anyone having issues updating your zumo xt gps (garmin)

Garmin Fixed it!!! I just got this response from Garmin about my service ticket: Hello, Thank you for contacting Garmin International. Garmin Express version 7.6.0 was released for both Windows and Mac computers. With this new version, we've restored the ability to install the City...

How do you use your Spyder?

Purely for pleasure. That doesn't mean infrequently ridden, however. 150-250 miles almost every day weather permits. 10,000 miles since September on local day rides isn't bad. I've run one errand on it and it was a mistake -- almost lost my Zumo because of the change in routine.

Armor all on tires - does it do anything

I don't know if Armorall has changed it's formulation, but it used to cause premature checking of tires. It was also notorious for causing padded dash boards to crack. Meguiar's rubber and vinyl treatment (#40) always worked better for me. YMMV

What are the advantages of a cat delete?

Mine is a 2020 RT and it always had a foul burning rubber smell at the end of a ride. And the heat on 90° and warmer days was captured in the cockpit area when riding or stopped. Didn't say the weight was an issue, just that it was reduced. Mine is as quiet as stock, but you can make more...

2021 RT LTD - What Octane Rating?

With real numbers from where I live--- $3.29 regular (87), $4.69 non-ethanol (92) = $388.89 for the 10,000 miles I've ridden since Sept. 8, 2020. Not even close to what a corroded fuel system repair would cost. I use mostly non-ethanol, but when I'm in the middle of nowhere, I don't fret...

What are the advantages of a cat delete?

Mine is *not* the ceramic coated version. The biggest change in perceived heat attributable to the RLS is the absence of hot air rising into my helmet at a stop, which is very welcome. It is cooler while riding, but I can't tell how much of the change is the RLS versus the new adjustable air...
