• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Anyone using Sheep Skin for Driver's Seat? If so, any input?

It seems like the only downsides are the look (if you don't care for it), and when it rains.

Brake pad rubbing noise - what is the correct way to fix this?

I am happy to report that I have successfully torn down both front brakes, lightly sanded the pads, applied the red stop squeal stuff (note to others…the “liberal” application in the instructions just means “more than super thin”… I squished a lot back out and had quite a mess to deal with when...

Recall - 2017-2019 RT and F3 Engine Output Shaft Can Break!

I don't read when the change happened exactly for the 2017 models, but since almost half of them were affected, but being towards the end of the run, you are probably correct (assuming that the 5707 bikes affected in 2018 represent a whole year's run.) I have to go to my dealer to get it...

Anyone using Sheep Skin for Driver's Seat? If so, any input?

Are any of you using the full sheepskin with a backrest that folds forward? My rider always folds the seat forward when getting on (actually it sort of flops forward on its own when I'm not sitting.) I see pics of the sheepskin on with a backrest, and assume it has to be cut to allow the...

Recall - 2017-2019 RT and F3 Engine Output Shaft Can Break!

The NHTSA report says only 5% overall of bikes in the years in the recall were affected. Looks like some 2017s, all 2018s, and just a few 2019s, if I read it correctly.

Recall - 2017-2019 RT and F3 Engine Output Shaft Can Break!

Is there VIN lookup database somewhere online, so I can check if I have one of the 156 2019s affected? (And to verify the status of the front sprocket recall as well.)

Anyone else notice the excessive amount of throttle twist/rotation required??

You’ve nailed the distinction yourself. It TURNS 180 degrees. It TRAVELS much less. That’s what I’m referring to. “Twisting” and “turning” are measured in degrees of angle, not in distance.

Brake pad rubbing noise - what is the correct way to fix this?

Ok since you both have both, and in my never-ending quest to learn stuff... Why do you have both? When would you choose copper vs aluminum?

Brake pad rubbing noise - what is the correct way to fix this?

FWIW, here’s the best two photos I could get of the rear pads.

Brake pad rubbing noise - what is the correct way to fix this?

As always, thanks Ron. I'm glad you wrote this, as I was under the impression that people used the anti-seize red stuff everywhere, including the back of the backing plate, (between the plate fuzed to the pad, and the removeable clip that clips to the plate, right?) I will get both anti-seize...

Brake pad rubbing noise - what is the correct way to fix this?

So you are in the "grease the pins" camp. Since you do it annually, maybe that offsets some people's concern about the grease collecting the grime, and making things worse. I'm still undecided which way to go.

Brake pad rubbing noise - what is the correct way to fix this?

Thanks for posting this. I think that is my plan. I'll get the EBC set, chamfer the front edges, and use some anti-squeal on the back plate.

Brake pad rubbing noise - what is the correct way to fix this?

What do you guys think of this guy's video, replacing front pads without removing the calipers? (Aside from not using any anti-seize or lube behind the backing plate) Even if you did remove the caliper for better cleaning, does the screwdriver pry method really push the pad back in, and won't...

Brake pad rubbing noise - what is the correct way to fix this?

I just did a very scientific measurement using a coated paper clip that is almost exactly 1mm, and the outer pad is 2mm, inner is 2.5mm. I can't figure out how to see the entire pad on the inside without taking the caliper or the plastic wheel cover off. I may just order some pads and change...

Brake pad rubbing noise - what is the correct way to fix this?

I thought the pad change was due at 1mm. These both appear to be between 3 and 4 mm (edit: actually closer to 2mm and 2.5mm, see below) by my estimate, which would seem like they have a longer life left to me. I've had the bike for at least 8k miles, but I don't know how many miles they had on...

Brake pad rubbing noise - what is the correct way to fix this?

I have an infrared thermometer. I may try that. I will also compare left rotor temp vs right. But if this is somewhat normal, why doesn’t the right side do it? So no one thinks lubing or cleaning some parts will fix it?

Brake pad rubbing noise - what is the correct way to fix this?

Thanks but I’ve done that process a few times try to eliminate some brake squeal when actually braking. It helped some, but I still get the squeal intermittently, and it seems to vary with the brake temp. I’m more concerned about this constant rub. It seems like the caliper shouldn’t be...

Brake pad rubbing noise - what is the correct way to fix this?

I noticed a rotational light squealing noise coming from left front when going down my alley the other day. If a car, I'd think it sounded like a low brake pad, bearing, or a pad rubbing. After getting the wheel up and turning it, I was sure it’s coming from the brakes. I took the wheel off...

Where to get engine oil analyzed...

Forgive my ignorance, but what does an oil analysis and gas smell have to do with each other, unless you suspect gasket leaks? Wouldn't there be other things like evap canisters and such to suspect first? (I picked up a gas smell when shifting after doing my primary muffler/cat delete, but...

Anyone else notice the excessive amount of throttle twist/rotation required??

I stand corrected. At speeds less than 70 or so, turning the pedal box on and off definitely changes your speed with no movement in the grip. This indicates that the throttle-to-grip position curve is for sure affected. And obviously, the throttle response is much better, that's why we get a...
