• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

    Imagine my surprise

I've bought three new motorsports-spec Yuasa batteries, and I've had good luck with all of them. But they do not include star washers in their hardware pouch, just bolts and the threaded inserts to change the cable orientation. BTW, I like the star washers in the picture (post 7) where the...

Difference in SE6 downshift under braking?

So... it seems to me my observation is mostly supported by others. However, whether braking or just coasting to a stop, the engine rpm still drops in that time, so the idea that engine rpm governs the downshift doesn't add up for me. Here's my take: - If I'm coasting down under engine braking...

    Knocking em’ down in Reddick

I don't know for sure about BRP's clamp bands. On a Harley, I do know they recommend replacing the clamps every time because they are stretched into position by tightening the bolt. I tried reusing them once but later regretted it when my slip-on mufflers slipped back off due to a loose clamp...

    Norton "security"

On my Windows 10 machines, I find Microsoft's included Windows Security (aka Defender) to do a good job. No extra cost and no hassle. On my Macs, I'm running Sophos Home Premium. Not very expensive at about $50/year, including a license for 10 installs. It puts very little extra load on the...

Want Driver Backrest for 2018 RT - any advice?

I will give a thumbs up on the BRP backrest as long as you get the correct one for your seat. I bought mine from a For Sale post here on the site and see them come up fairly often. In fact, there is a post right now for seat and both backrests...

Difference in SE6 downshift under braking?

I've had my Spyder RTL for 14 months, and I just made a new (to me) discovery. If I allow the RTL to slow down by using engine braking, it frequently fails to downshift as I would expect. For instance, I was out yesterday and slowed from 55 mph down to about 30 strictly by closing the throttle...

Little Blue's October 2021 Weather News

We finally have some heat relief, with temps in the 80s rather than 100+ as it's been all summer. The problem right now is smoke from the wildfires, it has gotten crazy some days. Dark yellow skies and a coat of ash on the car every morning. That is starting to decrease too, but no indications...

    Distance to fuel fill

Depends on the type of ride, but when I'm doing a mix of city streets and freeway miles, I usually start thinking about stopping for gas around the 150 mile mark. It rarely takes more than 4 to 4.5 gallons though so I likely could have gone farther, but I don't want to run it out of gas...

    all about this BARGAIN

As a Californian, I had to snicker a bit at Martin's mention of "stupid emissions regulations". Stupid regulation seems to be a bureaucratic pandemic. :banghead:

    Snow Spyder?

Same for me. About 4" of wet snow - even though it had 4-wheeler tracks in it - and my Spyder was done. Not enough traction in the rear to overcome the resistance of pushing the fronts through the snow. Fortunately I was able to back out of the snow onto a passable road. Never did make it over...

Opinions wanted: Spyder vs HD trikes

Mattman, Thanks so much for a well written and considerate response. I have to say that in most ways you and I are on the same page. Granted that neither is "perfect", you must choose which compromises you are willing to accept. I think that is key. I did get to ride a 2017 Tri-Glide, although...

Opinions wanted: Spyder vs HD trikes

I'm surprised you had so much trouble with the F3. That hasn't been the case for me; nothing except routine maintenance on both machines. Certainly YMMV. One factor important to me is the relative cost. A new TriGlide is initially at least $10k higher than an RT Limited, CVO editions are $50k+...

Opinions wanted: Spyder vs HD trikes

I admit I've learned some things; for example, that a Harley trike actually does have a rear suspension. The one I rode on Saturday was either a poor design or poor execution, as it felt more like a hardtail. Probably the most important bit for me was the recognition that the forces encountered...

Opinions wanted: Spyder vs HD trikes

A solid axle is okay on a pickup or off road (e.g. Jeep Wrangler) because of the intended use. But I agree that an IRS would be a much better choice for a trike.

    Thoughts on the 2021 RT...

It's really a minor gripe, but I do not understand why on the 20/21 models there are two "blades" that just hang down into the radiator air intakes. They're only attached at the top; the bottom just hangs out there unattached. The blades don't appear to add anything to functionality, and they...

Opinions wanted: Spyder vs HD trikes

I certainly agree with you about BRP Connect. You are correct, if BRP would just adopt Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, like most if not all auto manufacturers, Connect would be miles ahead of its current state. Thank you, Bob

Opinions wanted: Spyder vs HD trikes

Thanks very much, that is consistent with what I felt on the Freewheeler. Lots of “feedback” from my butt, not much from my hands. Not exactly pleasant, probably even worse on a long ride.

Opinions wanted: Spyder vs HD trikes

Probably the result of reverse being driven by the starter instead of the drivetrain. Certainly not a great decision by Harley’s engineers. Thanks, Bob

Opinions wanted: Spyder vs HD trikes

Thanks, Mike. After the crash that affected my balance, I really liked and was grateful for the stability of the Spyder. I still am. Exploring some options out of curiosity… and likely a touch of loyalty to HD. Bob
