• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

    BRP Tires

My fronts are cupped terribly as well, noticed it back a month or so and now at 10,000 miles I am ready to replace. Been trying to stretch them this far, barely made it. Problem is this 165/55 15 OE size is so very rare, only aftermarket option in the exact size (here in the U.S.) seems to be...

    BRP Tires

OK, back to tires. We had been tracking the different part numbers used for the rear tires since 2008, and the 2013s and 2014s did in fact have a different part number for the rear. When I had burned through the original rear on my 2013 ST-S last fall in 2,500 miles (was ready to be replaced...

    BRP Tires

Agreed. They are taking the easy route. Hey Bob, did you ever notice you have made 324 times the posts I have? In like one-half the time? Damn!

    BRP Tires

You guys are too funny. Maybe we should remind everyone, before they start a NEW THREAD, to use the SEARCH function and see how many times the same question has been asked and answered before? Hmmm? I realize we are all LAZY at times, but seriously, how many times do we have to see the same...

Who has the Oldest Spyder? What's the Mileage? Is it still fun? Any problems?

This thread was started asking who has the oldest Spyder. So I ask, where are all of the OLDEST original 2008 GS Spyders, like the first 100? Or first 1000 for that matter? Are they all sitting in storage? There have to be some of the first 100 units still getting ridden hard, are there...

Who has the Oldest Spyder? What's the Mileage? Is it still fun? Any problems?

As I recall, Jay Leno got #001. BRP Museum in Valcourt got #002. Jose Boisjoli (president and CEO of BRP) got #003. The two BRP engineers with their names (Bruno Bedard & Dany Duvall) on the Spyder patent got #004 & #005. I have #006 - was the first one to offer down payment at product intro...

    Poliaris Slingshot

Cheap convertable option All of the Minneapolis TV stations had a report on the slingshot last night, as there is a Polaris dealer show going on and they had some of the vehicles out at a local test track, so local TV reporters were obviously invited to go for a ride. The reps kept repeating...

    Poliaris Slingshot

Different in many ways I find it most curious that anyone who owns and rides a Spyder would be so intrigued by the Slingshot. It is a car that you drive, not a machine (like a bike, sled, ATV or PWC) that you RIDE. This is a very different interaction between the driver/rider and the vehicle...

    ST Audio Speaker Upgrade

Remember, if you can get a set of speakers with greater sensitivity it is like installing a bigger amplifier. For example, if you install a set of speakers with higher efficiency (like +3 dB) it would be as loud as the original speakers with TWICE the watts. For every 3 dB increase in speaker...

    The pucker factor

You know, when riding a snowmobile the rule is that your speed should be dictated by the visibility at hand and the distance at which you can stop in. When you can't see what is around the corner you had better be able to stop if in case something unexpected should suddenly appear. So just...

    RSS vs ST

After putting over 66,000 miles on a pair of GS (earlier version of RS) models, I bought a 2013 ST-S last August. Have ridden the ST-S for over 9,000 miles, still have one of my 2008 GS Spyders. I bought the ST-S for the riding position, slightly more upright and comfortable, great for the...

Another rear tire option Maxxis Victra MA-Z4S

Yes, I have used this tire, two of them in fact, in the EXACT sixe as the OEM rear Kenda. It has very good specs for speed (V), traction (AA), temperature (A), treadwear (420), and the tread pattern is very similar to our OEM Kenda. I personally felt it performed better than the Kumhos I have...

Did it really start this way?

That sounds right Mark. Notes I took on 1-11-07 when we were told the Spyder had just received the go-ahead for production say it was a "concept 10 years ago and prototype 7 years ago" which would place the concept stage right at about the start of 1997, with prototypes at about the start of...

    What is the SPYDER History?

Correct. For 1971 names changed again for the twin tracked model as the Invader actually became the Valmont. The twin tracked Alpine then got a longer chassis (103" went out to 113 3/4") and a full set of extra bogies, being called the "workhorse in the ski-doo stable". So there was an Alpine...

Did it really start this way?

That is correct, I rode several of the REV sleds with wheels. It was at a test track in Jennings, Florida. I believe it would have been January 2003. A select group of individuals was invited to preview a new vehicle concept from BRP and to provide their feedback on the feasibility of such a...

    What is the SPYDER History?

In 1969 there was the Alpine 370, Alpine 370E and Alpine 640E. For 1970 I show the new 399 engine in the Alpine 399 and Alpine 399R. The 640ER was renamed Invader, as this more comfort-oriented utility model featured a twin track and reverse gear. Then for 1971 we go back to the all three...

    What is the SPYDER History?

Wow, I am impressed Bob. Yes you are correct the '70 Nordic had the hood scoops with black accents, the '69 did not. 1970 was also the year the Alpine 640ER was renamed the "Invader", but only for this one year, for 1971 it went back to being called the Alpine 640ER. For the 1970 model year...

    What is the SPYDER History?

I should probably add that since the machine was being called a "roadster" (open-air vehicle with emphasis on sporty handling) instead of a motorcycle or car or whatever, that the name Spyder was pretty much (already) synonymous with roadster. This likely comes from the Alfa Romeo Spider (popular...

    BajaRon Sway Bar

It does many things. Most obvious is the reduction in body roll in corners, also called lean. Since the spyder remains (basically) flat through a corner and does not lean into a corner like a bike, the body mass tends to roll or lean in the opposite direction of a bike, requiring the rider to...
