• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

My first real ryde today in 10 years

Yes, the PO took good care of his Spyder. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to meet him, though, as he's come down with early-onset dementia. He's only 61. Too often, life is not fair. Ryde safe! Rod

My first real ryde today in 10 years

Not sure if muscle memory was at play but the Spyder didn't throw any wild pitches. Both my earlier ones were the 990 5-speeds so the 1300 6-speed is a nice improvement. The PO added Elka struts and a Bajaron sway bar so handling is great and forgiving for my re-learning curve -- which, for an...

My first real ryde today in 10 years

The weather has very suddenly changed and it was in the high 20C range today, so I had my first real ryde on my new-to-me 2017 RTL. It was great to be back on a Spyder after 10-years of two-wheeling -- and me being ten years older also means that getting another Spyder was the right call.

Having problems getting insurance in Canada - who do you use?

The CAA coverage for my Spyder is identical to that on my car. I've had 2-wheel bikes insured there previously. We get a discount because it's multi-vehicle and we've also bundled our home insurance. Because it's got Elka shocks, they added $500 to the insured value of the Spyder. Coverages...

What bike did you ride to get your motorcycle license ??

In 2009, on a 2007 Suzuki V-Strom 650 that I soon after traded for my first Spyder, a 2008 GS.

Where's your Helite Airbag tether attached?

I've not road tested this yet but I've got my Helite's tether being held by the Torx bolt at the upper right side panel that's just below the glove box. I'd test fitted elsewhere under the seat but I'd say this is the cleanest and strongest. Don't know why the attached image is rotated 90d but...

    Help.. 2015 Rt purchasing

Hi, From the online shopping I did recently, prices in Quebec are much higher than elsewhere in Canada and especially in the west -- but if you're in Quebec that seems to be a fair price for a 2015 RT with that many km. The three 2015s I'd thought as prospective were asking $24-25000 and ranged...

Big thanks to everyone for the great advice and ideas...

It's 10 years since my last Spyder and the past few weeks of trying to catch up here on what's new and then on what-to-do, and how, have been a great refresher ryde, so thanks to everyone who's shared their knowledge and experiences on this forum. Today was Day 1 with a new-to-me 2017...

What did you do to your Spyder today?

Brought my new-to-me 2017 RTL home on a flat deck. It was nice wet snow so it was like it went through a 35km-long car wash, so all the dust from 2 years of sitting came off easily. Tomorrow starts the fiddling and farkling.

Who Out There Has Gotten The Replacement Sprocket?

Haven't even gotten my new-to-me 2017 RTL from the previous owner yet but BRP was very quick to reply to my email confirming that the recall hadn't been done and then sending me their records and flagging the recall. They provided a list of nearby dealers and I was able to get it booked in for...

Still in the planning stages... we had freezing rain today and the forecasted temps are still too cold for a first ryde for at least another week...

When and where was the first time you rode a Can-Am tryke ??

Started riding at 56 in 2008 on a 2-wheeler and made the change in 2009 when I saw my first Spyder at a dealer who was selling a 2008 GS demo. Fast forward to 2010 when the RTs came out, I swapped it for the two-up long ride experience.

This might be the one - a 2017 RTL...

Thanks for the advice! I’ll be doing the deal this and hoping the weather starts to improve so I can get it home. It’s only a ½ hour away but I need to knock some dust off — it’s nine years since my last Spyder — so hopefully I can take the long way home.

Heated grips — do they work if the Spyder is idling?

Thanks for the replies! And thinking about it a bit more, it dawned on me that there are foam wraps on the grips so that could be why I didn't feel them heat up. It's been 9 years since I last had a Spyder and obviously didn't remember what the stock grips look like. :dontknow:

Heated grips — do they work if the Spyder is idling?

I had a look at a 2017 RT Limited today and the heated grips didn’t get warm while idling for maybe a minute. It’s still winter so I couldn’t try it on the road, but seller said he thinks they’ll heat up when the RPMs are over 2000 — does that sound right? I checked the owners manual but it...

Was there a front sprocket recall in Canada that includes the 2017 RTL?

As I'm in Canada and considering the purchase of a 2017 RTL, I see a front sprocket recall on the BRP website for the USA - https://can-am.brp.com/on-road/us/en/owner-zone/safety-recalls.html but not on the Canadian one - https://can-am.brp.com/on-road/ca/en/owner-zone/safety-recalls.html Is it...

This might be the one - a 2017 RTL...

... with the mods I 'need': adjustable handlebars, Elka struts, Bajaron sway bar and end-links, new tires, only 25880 km (16080mi), 1 owner, and dealer serviced. It's got the original drive belt, but the regular servicing was up to date when it went into storage last fall. It wasn't ridden...

Things to look for & ask about on a 2014 RT Limited?

Great to hear Larry that you're still riding! That's my plan in getting another Spyder -- the two-wheeler just isn't safe enough for me anymore on the local roads. I'll ask about the DESS and the compressor. Seems to me it was a problem with my 2010 too... Rod
