• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Any tricks/tips to reinstall those %#%! mirrors back on...!

I've had success with a very small dab of grease.

    Heads up - Blue Ridge Parkway & re-surfacing 07/2020

Chipsealing can be rough on drive belts. Get a belt guard.

    Hydration on long rides

I've thought about using a Camelbak, but I can't get the mouthpiece under my full-coverage helmet. The chin piece doesn't have enough room to allow use. If you have a 3/4 helmet, there's obviously no problem. So what's the fix?

    Magic mirrors/pace maker

When my mirrors started loosening up after a couple iterations of remove & replace, I took the original spring clips out, squeezed the snot out of them with pliers, reinstalled them, and put my mirrors back on. Rock steady ever since, and zero cost.

    My experience with Spyder Dealers

Another Alabama rider here. Agree that the Birmingham dealer sucks. You drop the bike off and they will call you when they finally get around to fixing it. The worst I heard was three weeks to get an oil change, but that was many years ago. Depending on where you live, there's a dealer in...

Coolest, best vented mesh riding jacket?

The most minimalist mesh top you can get is Draggin' Jeans' Kevlar mesh shirt. Unfortunately they are out of stock at the moment. Give them a call and find out when they might get more (might be tied to current economic conditions). I wore one over a cotton t-shirt for the better part of a...

    2019 Spyder RT-L Backrest recommendations

Utopia seat inbound, due any day. They can match the two-tone, gray/black stock seat on my RT-S. The OEM seatback is just plain black.

Lower headlights out on 2014 RT-S

I had that problem a while back on my 2014 RT-S. It was a bad switch on that 4-switch panel under the handlebars.

    Rear hatch open idiot light

Did you remove any rear end Tupperware recently, as in adding a farkle? I found out that, if you don't re-mount the Tupperware just right, it puts pressure on the latching mechanisms, enough so they pop open occasionally.

    First impressions on the 2020

I sat on one at my dealer. Whereas, on my 2014 RT-S, the brake pedal is right next to my foot and easy to activate, on the 2020 the brake pedal is forward and up. I could barely reach it with my toe, sitting all the way back on the new seat. To activate it with my entire foot, I had to scoot...

    Next Gen Spyder Drvetrain

I opted for the current setup. This keeps things easier for the dealership, and the tech only has to be familiar with one basic drivetrain. Tends to help keep costs down. If they went to a shaft drive/bigger engine, then in a few years the technicians will eventually become less familiar with...

2020 RT series are cool, but who's keeping their old Spyder

I'm keeping my 2014 RT-S. I sat on a new RT and I can't reach the brake pedal. They certainly moved that seat back to accommodate tall riders, but short riders like me now have the opposite problem. I'm 5' 7' with a 30" inseam. Women (who are generally smaller than men) may have the same...

My dilemma with the new 2020 RT

I sat on a new RT last weekend. Overall, it looks weird somehow compared to my 2014 RT-S (but then, I thought all Spyders looked weird when they first came out). The longer floorboards just look a bit off, IMO. Sitting on it was vastly different. I've read over the years of many Spyder...

Batteries (again)- Yuasa vs. third party, gel?

Check out Optima batteries. Back when I rode BMWs they were considered the high end. Pricey, but owners would get 2 - 4 years extra use out if them over stock AGM batteries. https://www.optimabatteries.com/en-us

    Here's some New Kenda Tires!?!

I had a chat with my dealership's manager about his tire policy. When I pointed out that a General Altimax cost only $80 compared to $180 for a rear Kenda, and lasts longer, he said that the price per tire and estimated tread life for Kendas was not out of line with premium tires for regular...

    2020 RT first impressions

I haven't seen a 2020 in the flesh, only in pictures. The new RT's appear to have a wide, flat black plastic nose instead of a slick painted surface. I don't know about the designers' experience up in Canada, but down here in the Deep South we have large juicy bugs. Lots of 'em (don't get me...

    Here's some New Kenda Tires!?!

Kenda is also the stock tire for the Polaris Slingshot. A quick reading of some Slingshot boards shows they're not especially happy with Kenda either. Maybe that's partly why Kenda is upgrading its product -- trying to keep what market they've got. And oddly enough, I just noticed that...
