• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

    Brake Free Update

Was able to get out in the late afternoon yesterday with my son driving and videoing in the chase vehicle; because his phone can't be videoing and on a call at the same time, you'll see me using my left hand to indicate when I'm easing off the throttle in this video. This was on an in-town...

    Brake Free Update

I think I agree as well, especially for night time ryding. There are three options for the nominal (just "on") light display. I'll make sure I show them as well. In addition to the pulsing option I had on last night, there is a steady on that intensifies when decelerating -- basically like a...

    Brake Free Update

Did my first bit of attended testing this evening. Apologies for the quality -- phone cameras are pretty easily saturated, but with the sound up you can get a reasonable sense of the performance of the deceleration sensing action, as I'm giving the play by play from the Spyder as I accelerate...

    Brake Free Update

Glad to hear folks like the idea -- I do, too! -- but it's definitely not *my* idea. I'm just one of the (many) project backers on Indiegogo, and was happy to be picked as a beta tester for the product to hopefully identify any final issues before it ships. Feel free to check it out at...

    Brake Free Update

Picking up where another thread on the topic of additional/third brake lights left off, I received my beta test unit of the almost-ready-for-primetime Brake Free smart brake light today. Here is a picture of it mounted on my helmet, being charged up for its maiden voyage: (The lights are just...

Which of the 11 American sub-cultures do you identify with?

The map also doesn't acknowledge the existence of islands in those areas -- I live in Austin, Texas, which is most definitely a Left Coast island in the middle of whatever subculture you want to call Texas -- and I certainly wouldn't call West Texas an extension of Appalachia. Having lived in 8...

Black Friday Deals - Please Post on this thread

UtahPete -- knowing you ride in a generally hot weather environment, which of the riding shirts do you use? I'd like to get the max cooling shirt, but it's in black only, so am thinking of doing the hi-viz model (slightly less effective in the heat, by my reading). Do you recommend any of the...

    Dashcam for Spyder?

EdMat -- did you do the install yourself? Any chance you could post a picture of where you mounted it (front and back)? I looked at the system and like what they've done with the setup, but don't know the first thing about the install process. Thanks.

Are Fast Flash turn signals illegal in US? Unsafe? If so, how to fix? (LED bulbs)

Not to argue or agree with any of the previous insights, just a bit of applied experience from Texas. I just had my second annual safety inspection on my 2017 RT after having SpyderPop's Full View LED turn signals installed in fast flash mode, and the inspector did not raise them as an issue...

    Helmet-mounted 3rd brake light

A final update on this thread -- I just received word that I'll be getting one of the beta units of the Brake Free helmet light; should be in my hands within the week. I'll post my impressions/thoughts separately once I have it installed and get to test it out a bit.

    Helmet-mounted 3rd brake light

Another brief update on the Brake Free light -- the beta (user) test units will be going out to some lucky testers in early October. I'm hoping to be one of them. We'll see. Shipment is probably happening in November.

    Is it Possible

Just another possibility -- did you stop using ECO mode?

How do you reply when asked about the Spyder?

I was going to answer this, but decided it was time to get out and ryde instead... :-) Which of course is the point, and my answer: it's just a lot of fun, period.

    Social Securty questions

You've gotten a lot of input, so I just wanted to add/encourage you to consider making Roth contributions a part of your strategy; you mentioned that you are getting a bit of a late start, and they're a great way to tackle that. As opposed to a traditional IRA, which accumulates tax deferred...

For Those Ryding with an iPhone -- A Few Questions, Please

All true, but (a) GPS and location services are also reasonably significant drains on the battery, and (b) most of the rides where I need Maps active, I need it active. I agree in that I go without when I don't need it. As I mentioned, it's a work thing -- I'm not doing what Apple wants, I'm...

Dealer dropped Can-Am line because of Ryker?

You kind of answered your own question, didn't you? I have absolutely zero history as a motorcycle rider or buyer before getting my Spyder in 2017, but I've got to believe that many people think of motorcycles as a *cheaper* alternative to a/another car. When they find out they're not...

For Those Ryding with an iPhone -- A Few Questions, Please

I pretty much match your setup -- I have a Sena 20S and use my iPhone for both music and navigation. (Well, in-town/commute, just for music; I check traffic on it as I head out the door and choose my route.) I use Google Maps almost exclusively. I've tried some of the other apps, both paid...

Helmet Life. What should we expect?

Thanks for sharing about the Koroyd concept -- hopefully it will spread to many more mainstream manufacturers so that by the time for my next helmet purchase it will be a feature in more than one line.

    Defeated by the steering bolts

For what little it's worth, even after, in the immortal and only slightly altered words of Mark Knopfler, banging on the bolts like a chimpanzee, I had no trouble with a clean and snug installation of the replacement bolts with no additives, Loctite or otherwise. The mount is solid rock -- er...

Do we like modular helmets or not???

As a full-face helmet wearer, I have Peter's question plus another that may be stupid, but why is wearing glasses such a nudge towards a modular? Quick explanation: I wear glasses for distance vision, but do fine without them from a "seeing stuff that matters" standpoint, including being able...
