• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

    Small oil leak!

They tried to fix an oil leak. Part of the problem is that the dealer gets one rate for paying customers and a much lower rate for warranty work. So first they turned my Spyder into a hangar queen because it was not a priority as long as they had customers paying the full shop rate. When I...

    Small oil leak!

I know you want it perfect but I would leave it alone. An oil leak and a certified dealer trying to fix it lead to the demise of my first Spyder.

    $450.00 Backrest!

I have one that I will sell to you for a lot less than that. It is silver and I don't know that it has ever been used.

    BRP got it made

I believe that some people have heat problems and some don't because of the definition of the problem. I harken back to the RS/GS where any number of people had heat issues with these. And then you find out that they are riding in Florida wearing shorts. Or the bike indicates 6 bars on the...

    Guest what?

I have traveled the Elio route with and Aptera. The Aptera was about the came design and slated to sell in the high 20's. After placing my bet and letting it ride for a couple of years I realized that it was not going to happen and got my money back. I am somewhat sure that the Elio people...

I talked with BRP for a rebate for 2013 to 2014

The 2008 had a very serious power steering problem. It probably killed a couple of people but we will never know. It tired to kill me several times in the 45,000 miles I rode it. I finally got rid of it because it was just too scary. One month later they had an actual fix for it rather than...

    Road Trip

Route 66 from Lakeshore Drive, Chicago to the Santa Monica Pier in California. Everyone needs to do that once. It is getting late in the year to be going across the Rockies and the Sierras though.

Anyone been told this about top speed why it won't go above 105 mph

The original RS/Gs was supposed to be limited to 110 MPH. They must have forgotten to do that since I took mine up to an honest 114 or about 120 on the Speedo. I am not certain it was maxed out at that speed but I was.

    Guest what?

I am a big fan of anything with three wheels. If Elio can deliver these for $6800 I will take two. My years of experience as a production manger and Manufacturing engineer say the numbers are not going to add up. I know nothing about producing a over the road vehicle.

My 300 mile Spyder trip to Lassen National Park...

Good report on your ride. I travel long distances on unfamiliar roads and my rule is I fill up at 4 bars and at 150 miles I will KNOW where the next fuel stop is. I have only run out of fuel once and I believe it was due to bucking a headwind on I-5. 182 miles seems to be the absolute end for...

    Grease fitting size

There is a side mount grease gun fitting that works well for me with the OEM grease fittings. You have to grind off part of the grease gun fitting to give it clearance but it works quite well for me.

    Slight "surging" feeling

You might want to look at your exhaust pipe gaskets. The OEM go away pretty quickly and I was told years ago that it was causing the surge on my 2008 RS. The right side one is the problem. Replace it with a Honda gasket and remove it as a cause. It probably needs to be done anyway.

Any interest in a Northern California Ride???

This is Recluse now known as Bob Naquin and I am in Manteca which is close enough to Tracy. I am a spur of the moment rider and that is sort of how I live my life so I am not much for organized rides...and I am a recluse so there is that. But good luck and you never know when I will climb out...

    Time to pull the plug.

I have gotten to the place where you are with my first Spyder. I went away for a while but came back because there is nothing else that I have found that I like to drive as much. My solution has been to buy a used out of warranty bike and stay away from dealers as long as possible. I am doing...

    adding oil between oil changes

I think it is important that you know how to check the oil accurately, read your manual-follow it to a 't' and added it as necessary. I use about 1/2 quart between 5,000 mile oil changes but I like to run it a half quart low to minimize oil in the airbox.

These people are now all entitled to health care. Natural selection was a much better way to go.

So what would make you trade up to a 2014?

I will buy a trouble free ST as soon as they make one. Until then it is the 2008 RS. I know where all of the warts are that one. Adding a shaft drive, larger fuel tank and smoother engine would help. These were brilliantly designed machines in the beginning.

Saddle bags..Why are we stuck with one type.

I used soft saddlebags for the longest time and got by just fine. I put givi saddlebags on a previous Spyder and did not care for them that much. Now I have a 55 lite top case mounted to the sports rack that came with the new to me bike and this works very well for me.
