• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

    Switching between Spyder and motorcycle

That's why I added a handbrake to mine. The handbrake operates the footbrake so its still uses the same system but it makes me feel happier:-) Also why I got a manual RS as it still had a 'proper' motorbike clutch and gears.

ATTENTION : All you folks down under in "Australia"

It's supposed to be:-) Seems a bit mucked up this year but it is beginning to sort itself out. There must be cold snap on the way though as all the old motorcycle injuries have started aching.

ATTENTION : All you folks down under in "Australia"

Its terrible when climate change mucks up your marketing campaign;-) New Zealand experiences hottest June on Record But you'll be pleased to hear your gel seat is still making every long ride a comfy ride down here.

What is the farthest miles you have gone in one day ?

Most recent iron butt I did 3,339km (2,075 miles) in 46hrs 9mins so that averages out at 1,037.5 miles a day over two days. I tend to do the two or more day events as I like the challenge, but I did do a writeup of a single day event were I did 1707km (1061 miles) in 19hrs 45 minutes if you're...

Tired of the sissy wave by other riders

Regardless of what I've ridden, and the country, I've always found the only ones that consistently don't wave or make some insulting gesture have all of the following characteristics: Its a weekend (normally a Sunday) and its a main highway and the bike is obviously more polished than ridden...

Is my Zumo 590 GPS Dead? Won't turn on?

Yep those connectors are a terrible design. I go a new battery for my 590 thinking the old one was dud before I worked out what the actual issue was.

I promised I'd never do a post about tyres but...

Beat you to it:-) I've already checked with Waka Kotahi (Land Transport Agency) and an asymmetric would fail the WOF (Warrant Of Fitness) because of clause "10.5. An asymmetric tyre is fitted to a vehicle with the ‘inside’ tyre wall facing outwards". They said in the case of a Spyder's rear...

I promised I'd never do a post about tyres but...

Those (typically) are not available here. Had a look and most of the performance ones are asymmetric but there is the Advan Neova which looks like it would work.

I promised I'd never do a post about tyres but...

I've always fitted Toyo Proxes T1R's on the back of my 2011 as I've found them far superior to the Kenda's for the sort of riding I do (bendy, mountainous, etc). Unfortunately Toyo have stopped making them and their direct replacement are asymmetrical so not suitable. There are the Proxie...

Pedal Commander - does it actually work? Anyone installed one?

Ahhh, took a minute for the penny to drop. At first with the name of Pedal Commander I was thinking it was brake pedal as I'd never heard of it:-) So what it does is alter sensitivity on the throttle, less input needed for the same response. A way of tuning the 'user interface'. Just like I...

    USA Four Corners Tour

I kind of know where your coming from. I do iron butt events and I may get the badges etc for the actual event but I've never bothered registering what I've done with the iron butt association for official accreditation - I know I've done them so why do I need to do a load of paperwork to get a...

    USA Four Corners Tour

My four corners is slightly longer. Shanghai to Lisbon, down to Gibraltar then to Nordkapp. Worked out a route and all the visa requirements but that's as far as its got at the moment.

    "Been there maps"

Mine shows all the countries I've ridden motorbikes (Spyder included) The Finland one is a bit tenuous as most of the time I was working there I rode a ski-doo, but I did get a chance to ride a motorbike with spikes in its wheels on a frozen lake. If I included BRP Ski-doos I could add...

    High beam riding for safety

Someone mentioned having their lights on full 'from dawn to dusk' In the morning or evening if the sun is behind you having your lights on full can have the opposite affect to what you want. Rather than offering a clear silhouette to other drivers they help blend you into the bright background...

Interesting news out of BRP on electrification.

Its actually other countries that are making the main moves in electrification. For example the UK has moved the ban on new ICE vehicles in 2030. Bearing in mind the average vehicle age in the UK is 8.2 years you can see how that's going to drive the market soon. EU is even earlier with a...

Interesting news out of BRP on electrification.

Like it or not its coming. This year or next will be when electric vehicles are close to parity on price/usability. You'll see an increasing move by people over to non-ice vehicles, and manufacturers are not going to keep making things that aren't selling. A lot of countries have said no to...

    thinking about cross country ride?

If you are doing a long journey and want to keep family etc updated on your whereabouts there is a free Spotwalla service that may be of interest. Its often used by Iron Butt riders (which is why I know about it) but can be used for anything. Spotwalla will display your location on a map every...

    GS/ RSS Buying Advice

My 2011 still has the original exhaust/cat, if you compare it with a pic of a 2013 onwards you'll see my exhaust is a lot larger but this does also mean the cat is out in the breeze rather than under the rear of the engine as per the later models. A lot of local riders did fit after market...

    GS/ RSS Buying Advice

As you asked about the GS/RS model. There were actually two versions of that model. 2008 to 2012 This was the original version. The engine loves revs and is very quick, as a consequence is quite thirsty on fuel. Considering this was the first model Can-am produced they are very reliable...
