• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Transmission Bearing Replacement - anyone had one done?

I've got a 2012 RT SE5, and apparently I have a bad transmission bearing. Has anyone ever had to have one replaced by a Can Am dealer? I think I'm looking at $1200+... No one around here works on Spyders except the Can Am dealer, 40 miles away. Any advice or suggestions?

Grumbling Noise When Coming to a Stop

After describing the issue (and the noise) to the service guys at my Can Am dealer, they suspected a bad transmission bearing. I asked for a wild stab estimate, and they said it would require taking the transmission out, and that would cost about $1200...plus the cost of the bearing. Since no...

Grumbling Noise When Coming to a Stop

Thanks very much. You've given me things to consider, and that's very helpful. You're probably right that the sound is just bouncing off that component shown in my pic. Since nothing "engine operated" is moving when the engine is off, and I'm just coasting, that may rule out the belt pulley...

Grumbling Noise When Coming to a Stop

With the left side panel removed, it sounded like the noise was coming from the part that is directly in front of the belt/pulley. I have no idea what that part is! The sound is "rotational", like its caused by something spinning down until the bike comes to a complete stop...then no noise at...

Grumbling Noise When Coming to a Stop

Removed the tupperware panel, which had many more screws and grommets than I thought...LOL Looked around inside, felt everything I could touch...nothing loose. The belt and pulley were fine...no play, no obvious rubbing. I left the panel off and took it for a ride, slowing to a stop several...

Grumbling Noise When Coming to a Stop

Thanks! I'll remove the tupperware cover over the oil tank, and the long panel on the left side. Then I'll take it for a short ride and see if I can isolate the noise. If the sprocket is loose, I'll tighten it up for sure. I'll try to see if the belt is rubbing anywhere, too. It doesn't...

Grumbling Noise When Coming to a Stop

YES! I parked on a hill, put it in neutral, engine off, brake off...and let it roll down the hill. The noise was there, and got faster as the bike went faster. If this were a car, I'd swear it was the drive shaft or the front u-joint. The noise is coming from about a foot ahead of the seat...

Grumbling Noise When Coming to a Stop

If this were a car or a truck, I'd say it sounds like the drive shaft u-joints had become loose, and the drive shaft was "wobbling" when not under a load. I rode it today, and came to a coasting stop several times...it made that noise every time, at around 5 MPH down to zero. Interestingly, it...

Grumbling Noise When Coming to a Stop

Nope, it handles great...no issues there.

Grumbling Noise When Coming to a Stop

The brakes are okay...the front tires are new, and I check the pressure regularly...I don't know where the front sprocket bolt it, but I'll find it, and check it for looseness. The noise only happens when I'm coming to a stop...never when accelerating or riding at speed. It sounds likes it...

Grumbling Noise When Coming to a Stop

Could be...I'll have to check that out. Thx!

Grumbling Noise When Coming to a Stop

Possibly, but it doesn't make the noise when I'm dowshifting at higher speeds, just when I'm "coasting" to a stop.

Grumbling Noise When Coming to a Stop

My 2012 RTSE5 has begun to make a thunking grumbling sound when I let it slow down to come to a stop. The running performance is absolutely fine...no issues. Shifting is fine, as are the brakes. I can't figure out what's causing that $%&! noise! I check the fluids frequently, and everything...

    Sheep skin seat cover opinions

I ride a 2012 RT with the original seat. The Spyder spends its life outside because I have no garage. The seat was ripped, torn, and looking terrible. I asked a local upholstery shop how much to re-cover the seat with "pleather" (fake leather). He quoted me $600, which I thought was...

    North Carolina Spyders

Up here in northeast NC, we don't have quite year round riding weather. :-) When it drops below freezing, there can be black ice, and a couple of times a year, we get snow. LOL

My 2012 RT has developed Windshield Sparkles! Anyone else? Any ideas to fix, or just replace?

No problem...here it is, installed and ready to go: There are two vent holes over the black areas. They don't put any more air on the rider, but they do reduce the buffeting fro wind gusts, semis, etc.

My 2012 RT has developed Windshield Sparkles! Anyone else? Any ideas to fix, or just replace?

Replacement Windshield I bought the ShowChrome Wide Clear SM6143 Touring model from SlingMods.com. Cost about $170 delivered. Easy to remove the old one and install the new one. :-)

    Sheep skin seat cover opinions

I got my shearling lambskin seat cover for the RT from Wildthingsfur.com... Its plush, great looking, comfortable and easy to put on and take off. If I get caught in the the rain, I can pull over, take the sheepskin off, and put it in the frunk within one minute or less. :-) It was a bit...

My 2012 RT has developed Windshield Sparkles! Anyone else? Any ideas to fix, or just replace?

To solve the "sparkles" problem, I replaced the windshield. I got it from SlingMods.com for about $170. The windshield is a Show Chrome Wide Clear SM6143 Touring model. It was easy to remove the old and install the new! I made a "slip on cover" for it, so when its parked in the yard, I can...

My 2012 RT has developed Windshield Sparkles! Anyone else? Any ideas to fix, or just replace?

I finally gave up trying to see through all the "sparkles", and bought a new windshield. It was incredibly easy to remove the old one, and install the new one! The new one has "vents" which don't cause any additional wind flow on the rider, but do seem to calm down the buffeting from wind...
