• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Need a New battery - what type: Lead Acid, AGM, Gel?

Lithium is still a technology in development. There are at least 3 different "lithium" battery types out there, all with different characteristics in terms of discharge and charge speeds, max current, Amp-hr ratings and life. The big advantage lithium brings is weight - pounds-size/power ratio...

    RT Mirrors - Options?

Give those "low" mirrors a chance. The "under-handlebar" mirrors are pretty much standard on (2-wheel) tupperwared sport bikes and sport-tourers. The mirrors on my old ST1100 are actually lower, relative to handlebar position, than the ones on my 2014 RT, and after about 2 weeks of getting used...

Installing new rear tire on my 2012 RT have a few questions

Aside: no loctite on plastic I know that is a joke, but... A word of warning. Loctite (or generic) is DEADLY to ABS plastic. Don't let it smear out from the metal to metal onto the plastic. It makes it brittle. Technically, it leaches out the plasticizer, the polymer bonds break down and the...

RTSE6 Trans Drain Plug Stuck - any ideas to get it undone??

Heat and cold. I had a hell of a time getting the crank pulley bolt out of a 22R, so I used a heat gun around it. Of course, the bolt heats up along with the block, but not as much. I had the socket I was using in the freezer. Heated up the whole area, hit the bolt with freeze spray, then...

    Is this a Nanny Issue?

The front of the cat is held snug on by springs. If you ran over something that bumped the cat back a bit, it may have developed a small exhaust leak, which corrected itself as vibration allowed the springs to pull the cat back snug.

    Spyder RT Rentals - Where?

Coming from 2 wheels, my biggest issue is braking. On the ST, the front brake does 85% of the work - the foot brake was an afterthought, used mostly for holding the bike when stopped on hills. During ordinary riding, I have no problem using the foot brake, but in quick thinking situations, my...

    Share your mouse repellent ideas

I've got a 3 ft gopher snake in the woodpile in front and a 4 1/2 ft bull snake under the shed in the back. I dooon need no steeenkin cats. :-) Seriously, I had a mouse croak on top of the cabin air filter in the Subaru - had to use the ozone generator to clean it out -, so I contracted with...

    saddlebag hinge replacement

The way ABS cement works is to actually melt the ABS material it's contacting, just like welding. "Old" ABS cement has had too much of the acetone (that actually does the melting) evaporate. Up to a point adding a little acetone and mixing it well will renew it. The "point" is where its no...

    2016 RT rear fender repair?

Can you clamp it so the the crack is forced together? If you can, simply clean out the surfaces of the crack, wet them with acetone, then apply ABS cement (available in the plumbing dept of any hardware store) to the crack and clamp it. Give it at least a day to set, remove the clamps, and...

    saddlebag hinge replacement

EdMat, great writeup, but one comment: you don't need to make your own ABS glue. Buy a small can of ABS cement when you are at the hardware store. You can thin it with acetone , or thicken it with shavings off a piece of black ABS pipe. I clamped a short piece of 2" ABS pipe and then used a...

How do you remove the Drivers seat back rest?

Thanks. As a new (to me) owner of a '14 RT, I'm just working my way into it, and I was puzzling out how to do this. So, it's off - and there's a really ugly large hole in the seat. I was hoping for something !ike a velcro'd flap, but no such. Am I wrong in assuming that there was a plug that...
