• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

What did you do to your Spyder today?

Took a good long 150 mile ride today and happy to report no visible oil drops hanging off the bottom of the engine when I arrived home, especially from the shift linkage boot. A split piston sealing ring was allowing oil to flow past and get inside the rubber boot and then start leaking around...

Oil leak on left side of engine - Troubles continue!

Just a small followup on what caused the oil leak from the rubber boot covering the hydraulic piston assembly attached to the gear shift rod/lever linkage. One of the skirted sealing rings was totally split in half, therefore allowing the oil to bypass the piston and flow to the inside of the...

Oil leak on left side of engine - Troubles continue!

You can put away your popcorn now........ Finally got the bike back today after another delay during the week and more parts having to be ordered. I had contacted BRP again and received a call from them on Tuesday confirming their conversation with the dealership for a follow-up and was...

What did you do to your Spyder today?

Picked it up from the dealer service department after being there 3 - 1/2 weeks for two oil leak repairs. Spent most of the afternoon trying to get things back in order, such as repairing broken or disconnected after market LED lighting wires and connectors, misaligned mirror covers and...

Oil leak on left side of engine - Troubles continue!

Another annoying follow-up..... Got a call from the dealer service department stating they cleaned up the messy engine and wiped everything down and then took it on a test ride, etc. Claimed there was no sign of any new oil anywhere, especially from around the rubber shift boot cover area, so...

Oil leak on left side of engine - Troubles continue!

Still waiting to get the bike back. In addition to the valve cover gasket issues (turns out both were leaking), I had also requested that they investigate all the oil drops that were always hanging off the bottom of the rubber boot covering the shift linkage every time I did an oil change. This...

Oil leak on left side of engine - Troubles continue!

Right now, I have to wait until I hear something back from them. I am planning to leave Virginia in a few weeks to go to Florida to deal with some medical issues with my parents and am not certain how long I may be. Normally, I would tow the bike down with me. They did initially indicate that...

Oil leak on left side of engine - Troubles continue!

Well, this isn't going to be fun. I contacted the dealer today for a followup on the oil leak issue and was informed that it was the valve cover gasket leaking on the rear cylinder. Spyder is still under the B.E.S.T. coverage, however, the dealer must first wait for BRP to actually formally...

Oil leak on left side of engine - Troubles continue!

Should have done this 2 years ago, but having it taken in tomorrow while it is still under the B.E.S.T. warranty. On every oil change since new, there has always been a few oil drops hanging off the bottom of the rubber shift boot. Additionally, there was oil staining on the inside of the left...

Thermostat replacement on the 998 engine

Out of curiosity, has anyone replaced the thermostat unit on the 998? If so, why did you do it or how did you decide or determine that it was necessary? Also, was it less or more messy than a radiator/coolant drain and refill? My 2014 STS has always and consistently indicated 4 bars on the...

My state inspection experience - just a rant

As many have done, my Spyder has several extra lighting additions, from safety and visibility improvements. These include upgrades and improvements on brake lighting, marker lighting, turn signals, etc. Today, I visited my local inspection station with the Spyder. The bike, and my other...

What did you do to your Spyder today?

Finally got a ride in today after 6 weeks of not being able to because of unusually odd and unpredictable winter weather our way - my longest "dry spell". Did over 200 miles as the sky was clear and the temps were in the 60's all day. :f_spider:

Do I need a service manual to replace the spark plugs on the ST?

I just did the wire/plug change a few weeks ago. Took two days (panel removal and replacement and some lighting accessory wiring) and a lot of swear words. The hardest challenge turned out to be the removal and replacement of the front cylinder wire. It runs between the two cylinders under the...

Any tips on Changing the spark plugs/wires?

I finally got the job done today. The only tense moment was when I first turned on the key and hit the starter button and nothing happened. It was then I noticed the kill switch button was off. The bike started up immediately and ran well. I noticed that a previous occasional slight engine...

Any tips on Changing the spark plugs/wires?

Well, I started on the task at about 12 noon and stopped at 6:30 PM due to being tired and frustrated. I stripped off all the necessary body panels and then dug into the innards to get to the front plug. I got the top of the airbox off and then the screws holding the bottom out, but there was...
