• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Accidentally hitting the starter button while the engine is running

I do like the flash feature on the Spyder, and have considered changing my lifelong practice of riding with high beams on in the daytime to using the low beams just so I can avail myself of the flash feature. Nice to know that I did not hurt the starter by accidentally hitting the button while...

Accidentally hitting the starter button while the engine is running

On my previous ride, a 2016 Honda Goldwing, hitting the starter button while the engine was running would turn off the lights for a moment. Some Goldwing riders use this feature to "flash" their lights at oncoming traffic to get driver's attention. I haven't tried that, but did accidentally hit...

Still riding weather in northern Illinois

Yesterday and today the temps were in the mid-70's and the skies blue. I was out riding for a few hours each day and thrilled that this early November was still so nice for being on the Spyder. But sadly I have to go out of town, by air, for several days and undoubtedly by the time I return...

    Wisecracks about Spyder

Last weekend I was parking my Spyder and a fellow motorcyclist walking to the same restaurant who had just parked his bike, yelled out "Whoa, I think you have too many wheels". I know he did it good naturedly, and then stopped to ask some questions about the Spyder. He was riding a BMW K1600 and...

MPG & How does the computer establish miles remaining?

After buying my 2021 RT I became aware very quickly with how quirky the data was that show my mpg as well as the fuel gauge itself. I know that I get about 32 mpg generally and use that to estimate when I should stop for a fill up. Rarely do I go more than about 160 miles. And filling up does...

    Riders Etiquette, "The Salute"

I wave to everyone on 2 or 3 wheels, except to bicyclists. I have found that I get fewer return waves on my Spyder than I used to get on my Goldwing. But no matter.

Anyone else want a Higher Touring Gear?

Some want a higher gear because of the sound of an engine at higher RPM. I recall when I had a Triumph America, which had 5 gears, the engine revs would be high and the noise commensurate with that high rpm at highway speeds. That made it sound like the engine was working harder than it was...

RT vs RTL Features comparison - food for thought?

This thread is intended for those considering the buying of a Spyder. Its not saying what to buy, just giving some food for thought. In 2021 I decided to get a Spyder. I was lucky in that the dealer had several models on the showroom floor, and prices were reasonable for the time (full MSRP but...

Does a Driver Backrest make riding more comfortable?

For folks like me with artificial knees, its a real challenge to swing that leg over the seat to get on and off the bike if there is a rider's backrest. I find that I can ride for up to about 3 hurs pretty comfortably with the stock seat and a Bead Rider seat cover, but no backrest, so I can't...

Anyone else want a Higher Touring Gear?

I think 6th gear is adequate. Running at 4,000 RPM or even higher is not hurting the engine. As long as you keep it below redline you are fine. I ride at 80 or higher with my 2021 RT in 6th gear and find it just fine as it is.

Your thoughts on the Best Riding Jacket for the Spyder?

I'm a fan of Klim products. What I have from them is absolutely first rate. For warm weather riding I use my Klim Induction jacket and it was worth every penny. For colder weather I actually have a no-name jacket I bought at a motorcycle show about 12 years ago. It was relatively cheap and came...

    Riding Spyder on gravel roads???

When a nicely paved road suddenly turns into a fresh gravel road I slow down, but that's the only concession I make for the change in road surface. And every time I encounter a gravel road I remind myself of how I used to get really anxious at this type situation when I rode a Honda Goldwing...

    Need advice on Obstacle avoidance?

When riding two wheelers i could ride in the path of the left (or right) wheels of the vehicle in front of me, so an unseen object (to me) would likely be avoided by the car in front me and by following the left or right wheels I would also avoid the object that they saw but I couldnt. Not sure...

What Tire gauge are you all using?

Using the FOBO2 TPMS system saves me from having to use a gauge to check the pressure. I like the way my Spyder handles with about 2 psi higher than the recommended pressures, i.e. 20 in front and 30 in the rear. And I hate having to lie down on the ground to get to the rear tire. So typically...

This is too funny not to share

One of the reasons I bought an RT rather than an RTL was that I couldn't justify the extra $4,000 just for the trunk, since I know I would never use the heated seat. I've had heated seats on other bikes, most recently my 2016 Goldwing, and I never could stand the feel of the heat, even in cold...

First problem with my 2021 RT - side case won't open! Suggestions?

Much thanks to Rooster58. Laying down on the ground was a challenge for these old bones, but once down I found the adjustment knob. I tightened it up and now the side case opens easy as can be, the way it is supposed to open. So not only did I solve my problem, I now know where to look if the...

First problem with my 2021 RT - side case won't open! Suggestions?

I went for a short ride and then tried again. It opened instantly and without pressure! I greased the latches (both latches, both sides) with lithium grease, closed the side case, and then it refused to open again. I drove to the dealer and the tech opened it on the first try. But when I got...

First problem with my 2021 RT - side case won't open! Suggestions?

I tried the inward pressure and still nothing. I wonder if the dealer will need to break the lock to get this open for me. I'm heading over there in a few minutes. The real shame is that I had planned on making my first really long trip with the Spyder this coming Tuesday, and not sure if I can...

First problem with my 2021 RT - side case won't open! Suggestions?

After one year I have my first problem with my RT. The side case will not open. The key turns to the open position, but pulling the lever does not release the case cover. Very frustrating since my rain gear is now unavailable to me. Any suggestions?

    Waze on BRP Connect/Go

I have no trouble using Waze, but on my phone, and not involving the BRP system at all. But having it in the BRP setup might be a good idea.
