• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

2008 GS parking brake will not click or engage, even tho the cable is moving. Not locked on, I can roll it by hand - any ideas?

I'm still not fully clear on what is going on. But I am getting the drift that it's not your cable or adjustment. It's probably the mechanism that does the latching and unlatching. I've attached a part fisch below showing these parts. Part # 31 gets goobered up over time and stops moving as it...

2008 GS parking brake will not click or engage, even tho the cable is moving. Not locked on, I can roll it by hand - any ideas?

How far is the pedal going down? If the adjuster is moved too far, the pedal can't move down far enough to engage the ratchet. Same goes for being too loose. The pedal goes beyond the ratchet with not enough tension to engage the pads. Though this is not your issue.

Are Straight wound springs going to be better than Progressive rate springs?

No problem. Errors are allowed. We all need a Mulligan from time to time. Perfection is reserved for the next life!~

Are Straight wound springs going to be better than Progressive rate springs?

Actually, askitee, it's the other way around. You are correct that the usual orientation of a progressive spring is light windings on top, heavy windings on the bottom. This is to reduce the un-sprung weight, as pointed out by Flier Tuck. Not usually a big deal on a Spyder. But the reason his...

Anyone know what this Chirping noise might be?

I have no idea if this is the same issue. But we just had a customer with a late model RT come directly from the dealership to our shop (about 4 miles) for some upgrades that he wanted installed. He has a service agreement with that dealership and had his oil changed. No other work was done. He...

Are Straight wound springs going to be better than Progressive rate springs?

Hmmm. It appears that I should have been more clear with my comment. A longer linier spring would be preferable to the short one you now have. It would give you better compliance over small bumps while still being able to handle large ones. Why have a progressive spring that isn't progressive...

Knocking in the rear wheel of a Spyder ST Ltd 998 - Any ideas?

I tend to agree with Peter. Though it would make more sense to make noise both ways. There are also spacers that need to go back as they were removed. Any play in the wheel is a good sign that the components were not assembled correctly.

Are Straight wound springs going to be better than Progressive rate springs?

The spring set you have is too light. The correct progressive spring would not start with the entire light portion of the coils fully collapsed in the static position. You've basically got a short linear spring with this setup. There is no doubt that your current setup is less than idea. But if...

Knocking in the rear wheel of a Spyder ST Ltd 998 - Any ideas?

I don't have an answer for you. But I can say that you should not guess about belt tension. Get yourself an accurate gauge and set tension between 120 and 160 lbs. The Krikit II is one option. But there are others. You also do not mention if your belt is running on the pulleys correctly. The...

Is Running Diesel Oil in Your Spyder such a good idea?

The 1330 clutch is much more forgiving than the 998 system. And I know some are using diesel oil. I am no expert on the diesel oil application. I don't like experimenting with customer's bikes, and I've never wanted to use it in any of mine. Maybe others will post their experience. The issues...

Is Running Diesel Oil in Your Spyder such a good idea?

I know a good number of people are running diesel oil in their Spyder. And I don't know of anyone who has had any particular issues with that. Notwithstanding, is this a good idea? Here is a video by The Motor Oil Geek that deals, in depth, with this 'misapplication', trend. And no, I don't...

Battery drained after 3 & 1/2 weeks standing, cranking slow, and throwing VSS Error - is this normal? Any help appreciated...

Not surprised at the VSS code. If voltage falls anywhere near 11v or less, the computer has a stroke and will start throwing random, meaningless codes. The Spyder being very voltage sensitive. Fortunately, as soon as the voltage returns to where it should be, the ECM recovers fully and the code...

Our next toy? - Check out this Kawasaki concept

Exactly. Not sure why we are discussing battery technology as a detriment when this vehicle does not run on battery power. Since it utilizes hydrogen canisters. It would make sense to carry spare canisters if you're going further than the on board supply will take you. Should be easier than...

Battery drained after 3 & 1/2 weeks standing, cranking slow, and throwing VSS Error - is this normal? Any help appreciated...

This is what PowerSonic, a lithium battery manufacturer, states. In short, a standard battery charger will work as long as it does not have a De-Sulfate process and you don't leave it connected when the charge is completed. Don't use a standard float (tender) type charger.

Brake failure message and no fluid from ABS and the rear caliper, any ideas?

A very strange story. And not enough information to do much more than guess. I hope he comes back with either a fix, or more details.

After hearing so much hoopla, I finally tried Buc-ee's! Never Again!

I am surprised at the hate Buc-ee's is getting here. Don't get me wrong. It's a free country, and I support everyone's right to have an opinion. But I like it there. Took my wife on Tuesday for her first Buc-ee's visit at midnight (a great time to go) and she was impressed. Took me 40 minutes to...
