• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

    Some Dzus tips

There are no different width clips, Jesse. You will have to do a bit of minor surgery to the Spyder to widen some of the notches. I used a pair of diagonal pliers to nibble the plastic notches a bit wider or a Dremel grinder on metal notches. Often you can get away with just shifting the clip...

    Security

I lock my handle bars by habit every time I park, but only because my ryde is an SE5. I dont want it to roll if the parking brake is released by a looky-loo.

Can Am Bar 1" Bar Riser

I'm in the minority on this one. The 1 inch riser is perfect for me, but then most of my riding is sport riding. For extended touring, I guess the 3 inch is better. But if my thing was touring, I would trade up to an RT.

    Shock upgrade (wanting opinions)

RT suspension parts are sold as individual pieces, so if the shocks wear out you only need to replace them, not the springs, stoppers, caps, adjusting rings or ring protectors. And, at $99.49 each, this does not seem all that tragic to me. Remember, the Spyder is a pavement machine (mostly), so...

Batteries - Early / Late Model 2008 GS

My 2008 battery is still running strong. I ryde all year and never put it on a tender.

    Shock upgrade (wanting opinions)

I put RT shocks and springs on my GS and installed the Evo bar on the stiffest pair of holes. I set all 3 shocks up on the stiffest notch and increased my tire pressures above normal. The result seems perfect for me ( I love the twisties) and to my mind is a lot of bang for the buck. However...

    RELOCATE PLATE

nverlast, I did this mod 3 different ways, sort of an evolutionary process. Mod 1 was a simple piece of flatbar wrapped in hose connected to an aluminum backing plate which used Custom Dynamics Dual Color Tag Boltz for tag illumination. OK as long as you stay on pavement, but if mud gets thrown...

RS vs RSS -- your thoughts on which way I should go???

Staysafeonline, before you listen to anyone dissing the SE5 auto, ask them how many miles they have actually done on a thumbshifter. It seems to me that folks who are familiar with both systems appreciate Essies. Which is not to say they are necessarily the right choice for yourself: everybody...

    Who or what inspired you

I went to the Vancouver Motorcycle Show with my riding buddies, as usual, but I was in a depressed mood. As I had recently had both knees replaced, my doctor (who knew my riding habits only too well), advised against riding any more two-wheelers, lest I drop one. So none of the pretty new bikes...

    Some Dzus tips

Replacing Torx fasteners with Dzus fasteners speeds up panel removal considerably. For most plastic panels, the 14 mm length is correct, but where thicker plastic is encountered, such as on the rear wheel splash panel, 16 mm Dzus are better. True, 14 mm can be used on the splash by bending the...

    She won't start

I had a similar problem on my SE5. I pulled the battery out and took it to the dealer for a load test. Proved OK. They replaced the starter. Still no joy. Turned out the bearings in the starter gear train were tight and they had to replace them on warranty. Rare, apparently, but it can happen.

    Fender fix

The stock plastic lens, which is held on by only one screw, falls off or breaks off. You cannot buy just the lens from BRP, but must buy the complete fixture, over $50. Also, being only a reflector/licence plate illuminator, it does not do much to brighten the Spyder at night. The Walmart...

    Fender fix

I have never liked the idea of the rear fender bouncing up and down on the trailing arm and I have heard lots of sad stories about cracked bolt holes, broken mounting lugs and fenders disintegrating mid-trip. Therefore, I decided to suspend my stock fender from above. In my case, I connected it...

    Hand Brake Poll

Having artificial knees, I originally thought that I would prefer a hand brake, as twisting my foot inwards was a bit difficult. The problem was solved with a brake pedal extender, and I now feel a hand brake is unnecessary on my SE5 .

    Oil change spills...

Here's another way: Do the trans filter last. With the oil reservoir drained and it's plug out, place a drain pan under the reservoir. Now, holding the trans filter cover against the engine, slack the trans filter screws a few turns. Quickly then, pull back on the cover momentarily and then...

    Hood help needed!

Steve, you have to remove the front fascia to access the hinge bolts. This is the V-shaped plastic part with the round BRP emblem on it. First, bunch up a rag and place it over the hood latch so that the frunk lid does not keep locking. With the lid open, you can see on the inside the plastic...
