• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Catastrophic Damage at 2026 D3WR - any suggestions on transporters to ship an F3 home to NC?

The $3,000 quote for labor might seem a lot, but that’s about 20 hours. That’s quite reasonable for the job I think, if $150 p/h labor rate is considered reasonable, but that’s the going rate in my neck of the woods. I’m sure BRP pays the dealer half of that for warranty work as they no doubt...

Your Weather News @ July 2026 Edition

Our winters get warmer, our summers get hotter, every season drier than the previous drought season, and now everything is catching fire. Plus there’s the ruddy earthquakes and a drying up Great Salt Lake that now reveals the toxic dust to blow across the valley as we’ve run out of water to...

What kind of navigation do you use on your Canyon, especially when you are out of cell phone service.

For some reason, non of the cellphone apps are that intuitive. Moving between Apple Maps and Google Maps is difficult as neither is that intuitive when setting up multiple stop trips. Nothing to my mind beats a Garmin device for the UI. I don’t know how much Garmin makes on its hardware, but...

Catastrophic Damage at 2026 D3WR - any suggestions on transporters to ship an F3 home to NC?

I strongly suggest enclosed transport. If they load it backwards they might pull the screen off. It might end up on more than one vehicle and it might set off the right way around but who knows by the time it gets to you. Whoever you use, be sure to tell them how to get the electric parking...

I wonder if rabbit fur under clothing might help? It's not like you don't have an abundant supply. I've given up riding in sub arctic temperatures. I'm too old and the roads get covered in ice when it gets down to those numbers, especially on bridges. Being in a mountain valley we get...

So from the instruction sheet I assume the 1.44 Amps is the negotiated power available as reported by the USB host, i.e. the Spyder's USB A connector? Or is it the actual instantaneous current draw, i.e. does that value move up and down over time? The 57 mAh is the current draw from whatever...

Ikon Front Shocks - Who Uses 'Em & What Do You Think?

Back in the day they were Koni products before Koni sold their entire motorcycle shock absorber business to their Australian distributor and they became Ikon (see what they did there), every first mod to Japanese and sometimes European bikes in the UK was to fit Koni Dial-A-Ride shocks. Koni...

Interesting oil test report. What say you?

One way to find which class of base stock a “full” synthetic oil is based upon, highly refined dinosaur juice or truly synthetic oil is to get the safety sheet for the oil in question. Oil companies are required to supply that upon demand I was curious about the XPS branded BRP new “fully”...

Is it worth swapping my Ryker Sport for a Spyder RT 2019?

It’s a bit like swapping a mid range un-faired sports bike for a large long distance, faired in, touring machine. One is great around town and on surface streets, the other is much better on open highways and freeways. Same basic concept, very different implementations and purpose. In the...

Anyone else had an Oil Leakage Issue like this? - UPDATE

Well if it’s not on the inside too, I guess I’d be happier about it. I couldn’t understand why if they have to split the cases to get inside, why they didn’t just replace the case. That bit was making no sense to me. The main thing is that you are OK with it. It’s your bike and therefore...

Your Weather News @ July 2026 Edition

Like I said, having been to Darwin, Cairns, and Brisbane in the summer time, I’ve always thought of Australia as, well, tropical. Even Brisbane in the winter was just a bit wet but not unduly cold. I never thought of Oz having a winter per se, but I forget, just like the US, the place is so...

Fortunately the local dealer that I bought this one from, and who serviced my prior one, has so far proven to be very competent. It’s about 7 km from my house. Since I retired early I was a substitute teacher every day for 11 years and one of the service bay folks I’ve taught on and off over...

Your Weather News @ July 2026 Edition

Tomorrow they say close to 100°F. Friday, Saturday, and Sunday will be 102°F, 104°F, and 102°F. At this rate I'll be in a retirement home before I get my BajaRon Ultra Sway Bar fitted. I'm getting too old for triple digit garage maintenance. I'm going to have to break down and get the dealer...

Anyone else had an Oil Leakage Issue like this? - UPDATE

I dunno. Frankly, if they wouldn't do this on a Rotax aero engine, I don't think I would want to have them do it on my road going engine. If the equivalent material inside the crankcase becomes detached and causes the oil pump to get blocked and the engine seizes, that might not have such good...

Say Goodbye to the Night Sky?

Eärendil-1: Forty five years ago I wrote a thesis comprising of a computer model showing "Satellite Orbit Degeneration in Low Density Planetary Atmospheres" mainly to predict SkyLab's fall to earth. It was based upon theoretical work of Desmond George King-Hele, Royal Aircraft Establishment...

Most USB 2.0, or 2.1 for that matter, devices as found in a computer on a chip, or low cost USB specific chips, tend to have effective data rates way below that of the rated specification. I expect the data rate on the 10.25" cluster in no doubt quick enough to run Apply CarPlay apps and that's...

Any cautionary tales (about or related to the case/backrest) on a 2017 F3T fitted with the GIVI B47 Top Case with Backrest?

You could take the existing backrest to a custom fabricator and have them extend it for a much taller configuration. Then take it to an upholsterer to have a back pad made that sticks out enough to fit your wife's back. It sounds expensive, but the cost of fabrication, powder coating, and...

What did you do to your Spyder today?

When you get out of metro areas here in the mountain west, you favorite gas station is the one that you see. You fill up when you can, not when you need to. If I’m getting down to 100 miles to go until empty I’m filling up for sure. I don’t think I’ll chance seeing if I can get 7 gallons in...
