• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Where IS that front accessory pigtail?!

I have found another source of an ignition-switched signal. On my 2015 RT Ltd, the outside section of the upper headlight assembly (called "high beams" here in the UK - I think they call them "fog-lights in the USA?) has a chrome dome about 30mm in diameter. My wiring diagram labels them as...

    Didn't last a week!

I'd love to know what route you took for the wires from the switch down and out to the main parts of the bike.

    2016 RTS PDM60 Installation

Look for my very recent thread on the subject of finding those wires: "Where IS that front accessory pigtail?!"

    OK to disconnect battery briefly?

Thanks Eddie - that does indeed seem to be the conventional wisdom (and, similarly, remove the negative first). Mind you, I must admit that both are counter-intuitive to me as an electronic engineer!

    OK to disconnect battery briefly?

I was worried because I had read about needing to reset the nanny by something like: running the bike stationary for 15 mins, turning round 3 times........

    OK to disconnect battery briefly?

That's comforting to know - many thanks.

    OK to disconnect battery briefly?

If I disconnect the battery briefly while farkling, do I need to do anything special when I reconnect it? Or is it best to keep the nanny happy by maintaining the power feed using a battery conditioner into the rear accessory socket (set to always on mode with F6)?

Where IS that front accessory pigtail?!

Found it!!! I found another thread ("Badboy horn/ Stereo plug? / VKEY") with a photo showing its precise location and, critically, the note that the wires are inside a black rubber boot. Armed with this new knowledge, I could see the boot hanging down behind the big red solenoid connector...

Where IS that front accessory pigtail?!

No, I don't already have the accessory socket - it's a new bike.

Where IS that front accessory pigtail?!

Thanks Kaos - I've got the battery cover off and looked in great detail through the hole but cannot find anything obvious. thanks for the tip about the battery connections.

Where IS that front accessory pigtail?!

Thanks billybovine but, as I said, instructions for earlier models don't seem to apply (is that even an RT?).

Where IS that front accessory pigtail?!

I'd like to use the ignition-switched power available on the front accessory pigtail in order to switch my FZ1 fuseblock - but I can't find the pigtail! I've read that it is meant to be close to the hole which is pre-drilled in the frunk for the optional "DC12 Front Accessory Plug". Some posts...

Ball joint problem on new RT

As daft as it sounded when I wrote it, it's looking like my last statement above might be true! My dealer (OHG Quads) has been very sympathetic - even offering transport for the bike - but for comparison they first sent me a brand new Spyder ball joint. And blow me down if that doesn't have a...

Ball joint problem on new RT

Thanks for your suggestions, Bob. The closest official dealer is still 150 miles away, unfortunately. I think there are now only 4 in the whole of the UK! With so few official dealers, I might ask if they ever authorise other competent motorcycle repair shops (e.g. the one my mate Ed works at)...

Ball joint problem on new RT

Sadly, the dealer is 280 miles away - and I'd have to pay the transport both ways even though it's a dangerous fault on a barely-used vehicle!

Ball joint problem on new RT

Hi all My wife's Spyder RT Ltd has only done 644 miles, but she seems to already be on her second major problem (after the Gear Position Sensor failing last month)! I took the right mudguard off last week in order to install some TricLed farkles. While it was off, I somewhat idly tried rocking...

    Gearbox position sensor malfunction

The replacement GBPS arrived so my mate (an expert mechanic) 'helped me fit it' (i.e. he did all the work!) this afternoon. The instructions in the Shop Manual said to engage Neutral first - well we couldn't do that because of the fault! Replacement wasn't too difficult, though the...

    Gearbox position sensor malfunction

Wow, so it's true. Can-Am have clearly known about it for months, so I'm surprised - annoyed, actually - that they are still selling bikes with the problem. You'd think they could find a way to identify which bikes have the bad batch and initiate a pro-active remedy, rather than waiting for...

    Gearbox position sensor malfunction

My dealer is shipping me a replacement GPS for me to fit myself. He indicated that Can-Am are aware of a bad batch of this component - contaminated with water, I think he said!

    Gearbox position sensor malfunction

That's interesting, thanks - especially where he says: "The dealer said there is a campaign(recall) for the gear shift sensor." I see no mention of that again, so maybe the dealer was thinking about the earlier model. As all the dealers are a long way away, my dealer is suggesting mailing me a...
