• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

There really are no alternatives to the Can Am reverse trikes

Honda's issues were with their conventional platform off road machines. Apples and oranges. There is nothing preventing Honda from entering the market beyond potential market share and cost analysis. One of the things that lent to the demise of these machines was the fact that parents were...

Spyderlovers is the best forum I've ever seen!

I have to agree. And it's not just because I'm here or it's Lamont's site. Spyderlovers is genuinely a great place to be. There were some bumps back in the day when moderators endeavored to uphold Lamont's standards. Talk of 'Free Speech' infringement, etc. But if the moderators had not held...

Does it matter which way an Asymmetrical tire is installed on the rear of a Spyder?

Only directional tires matter on the rear of a Spyder, and those tires will have a nice arrow indicating direction. The thing about asymmetrical tires is that they are sometimes designed to mount in an inside/outside configuration. The outside having different tread compound and tread pattern...

Anyone going back and forth from their Spyder to a motorcycle?

Easily done. Your muscle memory kicks in and I don't know that it is a problem for anyone.

There really are no alternatives to the Can Am reverse trikes

I think you may have swerved into the underlying answer. If making a reverse trike were easy, everyone would be doing it. No one is fencing off the genre. So why haven't others jumped into this pool? And why is it that those who have, have failed? I think we need to give BRP some credit here...

Newbie asking for feedback and advice - Any thoughts or advice regarding buying a 2011 RT-S? What are the most popular tires for it?

Anything can be troublesome. People have problems with brand new machines. Though rare, if it happens to you it's not rare. If the Spyder you're considering has been reliable for the previous owner, it will likely be reliable for you. No matter which way you go, there are few guarantees in...

Newbie asking for feedback and advice - Any thoughts or advice regarding buying a 2011 RT-S? What are the most popular tires for it?

We have not had any significant difficulty getting parts. If you take care of it, you won't need much in the way of parts to begin with. There are some modifications on the 2008-2012 units (and later V-Twins) that are easily and cheaply done to increase longevity and reliablity. If you have some...

    'The Lamonster Chronicles'

#18 - The Longest Ride (Part 1) Lamont and I have done a good many long-distance rides together. He always marveled at how far I could go on my 2008 GS with its tiny windshield and original seat (which he compared to riding on a football because of the way that seat is humped in the middle). He...

    'The Lamonster Chronicles'

It's kind of sad how we seem to lose track of good people like this. I guess it's just part of life. That's why we need to enjoy the time we have with people we meet. It tends to pass too quickly.

Front wheel hop when braking - suspension arm bushes, or... ?? Any help?

I'm wondering if you might have an issue upstream from the caliper. Smashed or collapsed brake line, etc.

Front wheel hop when braking - suspension arm bushes, or... ?? Any help?

I don't believe the balancers we removed had failed in any way. At least there was no indication of this. Yet, somehow, they were introducing an oscillating effect that was cured when removed. I’m not saying these are the problem. I just suggest that you remove them as a first step to eleminate...

    'The Lamonster Chronicles'

#17 - A Rose by any other Name... When we first got our Spyders (December 2007-January 2008), Lamont started modifying his right away. He had these body panel stickers made. This is what they looked like from the factory. (Lower portion of the silver side cover) This is the sticker that...

Front wheel hop when braking - suspension arm bushes, or... ?? Any help?

It's the wheel hop that has me scratching my head. Pulsating, etc., could be warped rotors, worn A-Arm bushings, etc. But for wheel hop, I would remove the Centramatic balancers, torque the front wheels correctly in 2 stages, and give that a try. We've had some wierd front end issues go away by...

Does this Ultra Plus Full Synthetic 10W40 oil work for our Spyders?

No, we don't. It's just that I've run my 998 that far just to see. There are other factors beyond viscosity. I don't mean to make it sound confusing. BRP has consistently used Castrol products. The company that pioneered being able to label a non-synthetic oil, Synthetic. I have nothing...

Does this Ultra Plus Full Synthetic 10W40 oil work for our Spyders?

We've also done extensive testing with Amsoil. And we have a varying amount of data on other brands. But I focus on Amsoil because that's what we sell at the shop. Though I suspect that any quality, true synthetic, Type IV base oil would have similar results. We consistantly find that both the...

Does this Ultra Plus Full Synthetic 10W40 oil work for our Spyders?

You bring up a few good points. #1, not everything the dealership recommends is an attempt to separate you from your wallet. Unfortunately, so many feel they can say untruths that it's made us all very sceptical. #2, the service interval for the 998 V-Twin was 4,500 miles with essentially the...

    The 'Full Synthetic' Myth Exposed

You have to be careful to identify your applications. The clutch in the 998 V-Twin is extremely particular. Anything less than MA2 will slip that clutch. It only takes a very short time and the clutch will need to be replaced. An expensive proposition. The 998 clutch will last the life of the...

Does this Ultra Plus Full Synthetic 10W40 oil work for our Spyders?

I believe what many people may be missing in this discussion is the vast difference between a well functioning engine and one that fails. Personally, I don't think prevention of total failure should be the bench mark we shoot for. If the 20w that XPS and other lubricants shear down to at around...

2018 RT sporadic upshift issue - any suggestions?

I hope it does end up being the battery. With a BS (add the acid at sale), it needs to soak for about 20 minutes before charge is applied. Then a low amp (around 2 Amps on a motorcycle battery) should be applied for about 10 hours to do it right. You can run a higher amperage for less time, but...
