• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Why has the Mid-West become a Spyder Rally Wasteland???

The 'MO' gang was an incredible bunch of people. They did amazing things and I'm sure there would be no way to fully appreciate how much effort it took unless you were part of it. I remember one of the early years where it rained almost the entire rally. Didn't matter. The crew moved what they...

Anyone got this/figured out the Steering Assembly Play? Is this normal, or is there a fix?

Interesting. There shouldn't be any movement there. It's a solid connection. You may be right that the assembly has gotten loose. You may be able to tighten up the existing components and solve the issue. Hopefully, you'll be able to see more with your inspection mirror. But a bore or endoscope...

Need help with adjusting belt tension & alignment please? Any step-by-step guides?

1050n = 236 lbf. 15n = about 4 lbf. But in reality, it is not necessary to be within 4 lbf of the 236n. You can easily get away with 20 lbf. in both directions. It's more a matter of where your vibration is the least. The Krikit II is a great tool to check your belt tension.

    Life's Little Pleasures...

Well, that's another issue entirely... My dad kicked me out when I was 19. He said, 'You've got 1 month to find another place to live'. The deal was, I could stay at home as long as I was going to school. I quit college and my dad was a man of his word. I thought it was cruel. And so did my...

Anyone got this/figured out the Steering Assembly Play? Is this normal, or is there a fix?

Are you sure the problem isn't in the lower steering collum universal joints? This is where we have found all of the excessive steering play. Though 3/8" isn't that bad. There will always be a bit of play in the assembly. I suppose it might be possible for the spline in the upper steering...

Just for reference - both our Ryker's USB Ports were miswired and not functional!

Not uncommon. Goes for the Spyder as well. We find brand new machines with reversed wires, and some with wires and cables that were not hooked up at all. The customer comes in complaining that this or that doesn't work. If it's a new machine, it's almost always one of the above. The shame is...

    Life's Little Pleasures...

I concur, to a point. Some of the best parts counter people I've dealt with were female. They knew their stuff. On another note, I have one son, very intelligent. I call him 'Mr. Click-It'. He works for John Deere as an IT specialist. Because if you have a computer problem, he will sit down at...

    Life's Little Pleasures...

You may have a point. As we were driving one day, my wife pointed out the window and exclaimed, 'I just love those little red cars!'. I said, 'Laurene! That's a 58 Corvette! But to her, they are just cute little red cars. I shouldn't let it bother me.

    Are the Front shocks adjustable?

I think you're on the right track. I beleive that BRP saw all the revenue that the aftermarket was getting for shocks and they wanted to cash in on it. They were offering shock upgrades for a while. I'm not sure what happened with that. But they were offering mediocure shocks for about the same...

    'The Lamonster Chronicles'

I don't know if Lamont even wants to revisit that event. But I am going to ask him if he got any bites from being covered with ants that night.

    Are the Front shocks adjustable?

If you have Fox Shocks they will have spring preload adjustment. That alone is a fairly big deal. It's criminal that BRP does not provide this on all their machines. The 1st 5 years of production, they did.

    'The Lamonster Chronicles'

Lamont has been an amazing and loyal friend for lo, these 40+ years. He has impacted my life more than almost anyone else in this world. I ride a Spyder because of him, I live in Tennessee because of him, and it goes without saying that I'm posting here today because of him. He is irreplaceable...

Any advice on adjusting toe on the front wheels? Is the job doable without BUDS?

I should have left the Ryker off this list. It is drive shaft! DUH! Originally, BRP aligned the front wheels from points on the frame. That does not work at all. Anyone can do this. Run the Spyder on flat ground, straight ahead for several yards. You should then have 1-2 credit cards space...

Any advice on adjusting toe on the front wheels? Is the job doable without BUDS?

The rear wheel of a Spyder/Canyon is aligned using belt location on the pulley. Not a frame or other relational measurement. What you are looking for with the rear wheel is trajectory or direction. Then you use the front wheel lasers to align them in the same direction with the appropriate toe in.

Any advice on adjusting toe on the front wheels? Is the job doable without BUDS?

I don't see how, though there have been those who say they can. Lamont and I spent several days trying a good number of ways to do this and were woefully unsuccessful. The front of a Spyder, coupled with alignment of the rear wheel, reqires very exacting tolerances to be right. You might get...

2012 RT occasionally Stalling, no codes, just stalls! Any ideas? And what do you get for Gas Milage?

The throttle body electric motor holds the throttle butterfiles sligtly open for a period of time to vent the intake system. It makes a subtle whining noise. That's not a problem. The temperature gauge on the early Spyders tended to read high at operating temperature. What you want to look for...

Are people throwing better shocks at their trike first, instead of better tires?

The more miles you put on before upgrading the sway bar, the happier you'll be with the improvement.
